Summary

Description

815 an early LYR 4-4-0 of the “629 Class” (called after the first locomotive in that class, No. 629). The 629 class locos were designed by William Barton Wright, the L&Y’s Chief Mechanical Engineer, and a total of 110 locos were built by a variety of private loco building companies.

No. 815 was built by Neilson & Co in 1883, rebuilt with a new boiler in 1895 and withdrawn (scrapped) in 1908

This photo was taken from an old original photo we came across while helping to clear the house of a deceased friend. I have uploaded it to Flickr in the hope that it might be interesting to steam enthusiasts.
