A Foreword Mrs. Nagel and I were asked to go to China in 1909. We havegiven twelve of the best years of our life in service to the Chinesepeople. A few minutes ago I finished my birthday dinner. I stillfeel and, some say, I act like a boy, though I am thirty-four. Myown children — Florence, aged ten, and Sherman, aged six — withElder J. P. Andersons two little girls, Helen and Hazel, have justiven me the usual birthday whipping. When I was home on furlough five years ago, I visited numerouschurches in the Western States, and spoke on China from Spokaneto San Diego. By invitation, I talked also to many boys and girlsin both public and church schools.
