Summary

Description The subway car leading this Orange Line Train, Car No. 2740, is among the oldest rolling stock on the Chicago El. The 2600 series “L” cars were built from 1981-1987 by the Budd Company of Philadelphia, PA. The 2600 series entered revenue service in 1981. This was the final series of rolling stock built by the Budd Company before they went out of business in 1987. Most Chicago El cars have a length of 48 feet, which is shorter than the rolling stock found on other major rapid transit operators such as the New York City Subway and the Washington Metro.
