Chartres, France


North Rose Window with five lancet windows in the north transept of Chartres Cathedral. This window was crafted c. 1230. It was donated by Queen Blanche of Castille whose crest is to be seen in the spandrels. The five figures in the lancet windows are, from left to right, Melchizedek (top) Nebuchchadnezzar (bottom), David (top) and Saul (bottom), St Anne, Solomon (top) and Jerobeam (bottom), and Aaron (top) and his persecutor the Pharaoh (bottom).
