English: This true-color image of Hurricane Florence over North Carolina was captured on September 14, 2018, at 8:01 A.M. EDT (12:01 UTC), by the Advanced Baseline Imager (ABI) instrument flying aboard NOAA's GOES 16 satellite. Florence was a powerful hurricane that originated from a tropical wave off the coast of Africa during the 2018 Atlantic hurricane season on the last day of August in 2018. Florence peaked as a Category 4 Major Hurricane earlier in its track. When this was captured, Florence was a Category 1 hurricane, with winds of 90 mph (140 km/h) (80 knots) on the 1-min Saffir-Simpson scale and had a minimum central pressure of 956 mbar (28.2 inHg). |
