Summary

Soldiers from 3rd Squadron, 1st Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, train at the National Training Center in Fort Irwin, Calif., in preparation for deployment overseas to fight the war on terror. Capt. David J. Smith and 2nd Lt. Mike Barth patrol the vast southern California desert, where the climate and topography is not unlike many areas of the Middle East.
