LSE Honorary Fellow

'President of the LSE Society in 1970. Gordon Brunton was born in London in 1921, educated at Cranleigh and the London School of Economics, where he read Economics and Politics. His university career was broken in 1941 when, at the age of 19, he joined the army. Was commissioned at the beginning of 1942 in the Royal Artillery, and soon afterwards went to the Far East where he joined the Indian Army. He served om India, Assam and Burma for about four years. At the end of the war he returned to England, and then spent a year in Germany in Military Government before being demobilised. After demobilisation, returned to the University as an external student and entered the publishing business with Tothill Press....In 1967, when The Sunday Times and The Times merged, he was appointed to the Board of Times Newspapers Limited. In January 1968 he became Managing Director and Chief Executive of The Thomson Organisation Limited.' LSE Magazine, June 1970, No39, p.15.
