Summary

Description
English: A map showing the spread of shell tempering in Mississippian culture ceramics on the US Gulf Coast from 1100 to 1650 CE. Blue field to the left represents the Plaquemine Mississippian culture area and the red field represents the Pensacola culture spread of shell tempering and purple where they overlap. Important sites marked include the Holly Bluff Site, Moundville Archaeological Site, Bottle Creek Indian Mounds, and Fort Walton Mound.[1]
