Summary

Description
English: Diptera in a cork-bottomed paper-lined wooden "storebox" (a cork-bottomed, paper-lined high quality wooden box with a tight fitting lid) for temporary storage or consignment.Note the age of the box which was supplied by the company owned by Edward Wesley Janson [1] (1822-1891). With one exception, the preserved dry specimens are too small to be pinned directly on "standard" pins and are pinned as double mounts.Double- mounting refers to the insect’s being mounted on a minuten or card point, which in turn is mounted on standard insect pin. Minutens are 10 and 15- mm lengths of stainless steel many thicknesses. Minuten are finely pointed at one end, headless on the other. These double mounts were assembled by inserting the minuten into a small strip of polyporus, a pure white material obtained from a bracket fungus.Other duuble-mounted specimens are glued to white card triangle called "points". Some specimens are pinned laterally, others are pinned vertically. All the specimens bear data labels, either printed or handwritten with Indian ink and determination labels ("det. means determined or identified by. Note the date (year) after the determination authorities name. For a closer view look here [2]
