Major General Matt Holmes CBE DSO handed over the role of Commandant General Royal Marines (CGRM) to Lieutenant General Robert A Magowan CB CBE, during a formal ceremony held at the Commando Training Centre Royal Marines, Lympstone, Devon.

The Supersession Ceremony was attended by First Sea Lord, Admiral Tony Radakin CB ADC and Brigadier Tony Turner ADC, Deputy CGRM, as well as Brigadier Richard Cantrill OBE MC, Commander 3 Commando Brigade and Colonel Simon Chapman OBE, Commanding Officer of CTCRM.

The Commandant General Royal Marines is responsible for advising the First Sea Lord, with professional responsibility for all Royal Marine units; however his direct reporting line is to the Fleet Commander.
