Title
Medieval lead spindle whorl
Description
English: Medieval Lead spindle-whorl, biconical, decorated in relief with zig-zag, pellets and V’s. Diameter 30mm, thickness 16.5mm, central hole 9-11mm. Weighing 59.27g. Similar to an example from an early 16th century context at the Augustinian Friary, Leicester, complete with its wooden spindle (Mellor and Pierce 1981, 139-40, fig.51 no.71). It is possible that the object was residual, but it is unlikely to have been very ancient when deposited in the context, in view of its completeness.
