YOUNG Austin Waugh has plenty of potential, but his Father said that he was the real star of the match.
Steve Waugh hadn't batted for eight years, but yesterday he hit 91 runs off just 48 deliveries in the charity match for his Steve Waugh foundation.
Waugh hit six sixes at Drummoyne Oval and relished the chance to bat with his son Austin, who has already played junior representative cricket for NSW and showed the same kind of poise his father has.
Former Socceroos star goalkeeper Mark Bosnich said the Waughs were a pleasure to watch and both father and son had wonderful technique.
"Not just Steve, but Austin's placement was exquisite," said Bosnich, who took the wicket of Souths enforcer Mick Crocker in his first over, before Waugh crunched him for a couple of boundaries in his second over.
