Summary

Description
English: The original photograph of this edited and colourised picture was taken in approximately 1902 by Ernest Gall (1863 - 1925) and is called "North Adelaide view looking northeast from St Peter's Cathedral" (PRG 631/2/302). The image is from the State Library of South Australia and is part of the Adelaide Views Collection. The unedited black and white picture can be accessed via the link below:

The Library provides the following summary, "View of North Adelaide looking northeast from St. Peter's Cathedral. In the foreground is the intersection of Kermode and Park Streets. Martin's Scotch Thistle Hotel stands on the corner of Kermode Street." I have to admit it took me a minute or two to orientate myself with this picture. It's helpful to know Martin's Scotch Thistle Hotel changed its name to the Cathedral Hotel in 1925. Across the road from the hotel and just up from that little shop is the Adelaide Children's Hospital. In the distance, you can see Brougham Place Uniting Church, which according to the church website, "...was founded, as a 'Congregational' church, on the 20th October 1859. The foundation stone was laid on the 15th of May 1860." It was designed by architects Morgan and Gilbert.

PLEASE NOTE: The colours on my modified photographs are not meant to be an absolute representation of what existed when the original pictures were taken. I try my best to replicate colours, but I ask you to please view the colourised photographs as digital art.
