Summary

Description
English: A cropped version of the single illustration (full version) in Charles Darwin's 1859 book On the Origin of Species showing the left part of the diagram, as it appears in Daniel Dennett's book Darwin's Dangerous Idea. It is found in chapter ten (figure 10.9), "Bully for Brontosaurus", in the section "Punctuated Equilibrium: A Hopeful Monster". Dennett contends that Darwin in fact held the punctuated equilibrium view himself, and that it was ironic that the book's single illustration showed steadily sloping ramps.
