Solar-filament.gif (669 × 478 pixels, file size: 114 KB, MIME type: image/gif)

Summary

Description
English: Filament erupting during a solar flare, seen at EUV wavelengths that show both emission and absorption (the filament has both).

The plasma physics involved in this process remains ill-understood, but it certainly involves the Sun's magnetic field.
