Note that the uploaded photo is of better quality than the newsprint copy. It originally was taken from a website and licensed as PD-Pre-1923. A search of Newspapers.com has failed to turn up a published copy of the photo from the timeframe (circa 1906-1908) when it was taken and most likely first published. A copy was printed, however, at the time of Thaw's death in 1947.
Renewal searches were done in publications for the years 1974 and 1975. There were no renewals for The Plain Speaker, Hazleton, Pennsylvania. There were no listings for the newspaper.
Note that it may still be copyrighted in jurisdictions that do not apply the rule of the shorter term for US works (depending on the date of the author's death), such as Canada (70 years p.m.a.), Mainland China (50 years p.m.a., not Hong Kong or Macao), Germany (70 years p.m.a.), Mexico (100 years p.m.a.), Switzerland (70 years p.m.a.), and other countries with individual treaties.
