Gay Icon Project

In my effort to merge the now-deleted list from the article Gay icon to the Gay icons category, I have added this page to the category. I engaged in this effort as a "human script", adding everyone from the list to the category, bypassing the fact-checking stage. That is what I am relying on you to do. Please check the article Gay icon and make a judgment as to whether this person or group fits the category. By distributing this task from the regular editors of one article to the regular editors of several articles, I believe that the task of fact-checking this information can be expedited. Thank you very much. Philwelch 20:27, 24 Mar 2005 (UTC) I dont understand. Liddy Dole has demonstrated a pronounced dislike for gay people and was responsible for writing legislation that effectively punishes lgbt for no other reason than that they are honest about who they are. Why exactly is this women who contributes so much animosity and vitriol towards gay people (under the guise of being a "Christian") a "Gay Icon"? DCX (talk) 21:00, 29 December 2010 (UTC)

Too Many Segments?

Just in reading the article, it seems like it's drastically segmented. Whole articles are dedicated to a single sentence. Wouldn't it be better if all those facts were compiled into one comprehensive article? Just a thought. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Champiness (talkcontribs) 23:50, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

EDIT: From the beginning, I intended to sign that. I just made a typo. Sorry. :P —Preceding unsigned comment added by Champiness (talkcontribs) 23:53, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

Controversy?

Controversy has been introduced in this campaign by Dole's attack on her opponent for accepting support from groups that do not conform to Dole's religious allegiance.

Without anything specific and perhaps a link or citation of the "controversy" in some source, this sentence tells absolutely nothing except perhaps to someone who knows the facts already.--Janko (talk) 18:03, 5 September 2008 (UTC) Oh I see. Now we are rewriting all of Dole's anti-gay stuff out. Another honest Christian who forget the 9th commandment.DCX (talk) 21:03, 29 December 2010 (UTC)

For those who prefer truth to the mental illness of pervert propaganda: "The gay invention" at www.touchstonemag.com. http://www.touchstonemag.com/archives/article.php?id=18-10-036-f As with the German & Soviet fascists it's so easy for today's sodomite fascists to brainwash the world into religious devotion to lies. Also see the lies exposed at www.DrJudithReisman.org for those few who prefer God's truth to sodomy's mentally ill lies known to be such throughout history, censored by wickipeedia and its religious devotion to opposing free speech, i.e. anything that doesn't mostly agree with it's self-serving agenda. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 184.18.126.30 (talk) 17:07, 21 March 2014 (UTC)

Residency and other disputes

Although Senator Dole is a public figure, the BLP policy still applies, as do the prohibition against original research and the requirement for reliable independent third party sources. The article should recite facts and cite sources; no more, and no less. Partisan sources are not adequate. Please do not make this a battleground; conduct your advocacy for or against her in another forum, not here. Kablammo (talk) 01:23, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

Accent

Why does the article state that Dole "still speaks with a noticeable Southern accent"? Not only is this not cited and irrelevant, it's also derogatory and disrespectful to those of Southern heritage -- it seems to assume that a Southern accent is something undesirable that normally goes away once someone leaves the South, like a respiratory illness where someone flees to warmer climes to escape. (Although maybe it ought to go in the Residency section. It is remarkable that Dole managed to keep a North Carolina accent without living in the state for 40-some years.) I've deleted it, and if whoever put it there wants to defend it, go for it. Jeremymerrill502 (talk) 01:09, 30 October 2008 (UTC)

Libby or Liddy?

I could have sworn her nickname was Liddy, not Libby. Any insight? Bubbha (talk) 03:56, 1 November 2008 (UTC)

It's Liddy, per the dozens of political ads I'm tired of hearing. FinalWish (talk) 01:42, 2 November 2008 (UTC)

It is Liddy but this is the best source I could find for it [1]. -- Gudeldar (talk) 22:01, 5 November 2008 (UTC)

Short term semi-protection

I've added short term semi-protection due to the recent IP vandalism. Please let me know if anyone has concerns. Risker (talk) 01:28, 5 November 2008 (UTC)

She lost, at any rate. I wish I could edit it. 71.103.97.189 (talk) 01:34, 5 November 2008 (UTC)
She lost but in the US a political office does not change hands the moment the election result is declared (or more precisely at the moment when the media call it even before the official result). Dole is still a Senator until January 3rd when Hagan takes office. If the Senate has any sessions between now and then (which I believe is normal practice) then Dole is still exercising power, albeit as a lame duck. Timrollpickering (talk) 15:39, 5 November 2008 (UTC)

There was an edit that put the word former in the text and it stood almost a full day. I would urge the person who made the edit not to change it until the Janurary when the new US Congress meets and urge others to watch for these kinds of edits. 58.232.26.95 (talk) 12:11, 16 November 2008 (UTC)

Liddy

I don't know whether she eventually made her peace with it, but during the 1996 presidential campaign and her first Senate campaign, it was made clear that she did like to be called "Liddy". It seems to me that the article should do better than simply inserting the nickname in her full name without comment, especially if she still doesn't like it. -Rrius (talk) 16:09, 1 May 2010 (UTC)

Error in Electoral History statistics

Note the differences here:

I think the 2002 election is off by a decimal point. Can anyone fix this?
