Importance

I'm sorry to see that editors feel this article not to be necessary. Kaivalyadhama has a remarkably central place in the history of modern yoga, as the institution founded very early in modern yoga's history by Swami Kuvalayananda, who for many years encouraged research into the physiology of yoga (for instance of yoga breathing, pranayama) there. Ah. Notability is established by published sources in the world, not by what is in the article. Sources on the institute include Alter 2004, Shearer 2020, Singleton 2010, Singleton & Ellen Goldberg 2014, Michelle Goldberg 2015. I'll add some this week. Not at all, it's a yes, but the article has long stated that the full name is frequently abbreviated. It would be appreciated if you'd assume good faith of other editors, not just me but those who wrote this article on a century-old and foundational institution of modern yoga. Many thanks. I took it that you'd read the article, and indeed that you'd find mentions of the centre under both names to be honest. A quick look at Scholar finds that both searches work, with predictably many more hits for the single word. Chiswick Chap (talk) 21:11, 24 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like possible WP:CITOGEN. The initial (2012) version of the article had no source for the long name, which seems to have appeared (from a non-exhaustive search) only in some subsequent publications. Alter gives the institute's name in 1924 as the Kaivalyadhama Yoga Ashram. As the article says, the 1944 society was the Shreeman Madhava Yoga Mandira Samiti (SMYMS). The research arm seems always to have been known as Kaivalyadhama (without the Ashram bit); Indian authors sometimes drop the final "a" as they barely sound the implicit trailing vowel. The 1950 college was the Gordhandas Seskaria College of Yoga and Cultural Synthesis, a jawcracker much like the article's current title.

The phrase "Kaivalyadhama Yoga Institute" is fairly widely used but I believe it is entirely unofficial.

The phrase "Kaivalyadhama Health and Yoga Research Center" is less widely used, and the spelling should be "Centre" as is usual in India. The K. website states in terms "In 1924, he established the Kaivalyadhama Health and Yoga Research Centre in the tranquil settings of Lonavala in Maharashtra’s Pune district." Ah I see the article was originally created as a copy(vio) of what was then called Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health. The long name wasn't sourced. I think it was probably made up. Bon courage (talk) 21:43, 24 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
