Expansion

[edit]

This article has a main focus on MEDEVAC in the military sense, when there is just as much civilian MEDEVAC activity as well. Someone should go into that who knows about the topic. --Cheers, Mazeau (talk) 16:28, 11 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

At the end of the article, it states "The first civilian medevac in the United States was performed by the Maryland State Police Aviation Command on March 19, 1970.[1][2][3] ". I do not know who actually put this in, but it is demonstrably false. There are lots of documents reflecting civilian medevac in the US much earlier than this. You could probably make this accurate by modification (e.g. "first helicopter civilian medevac with a trained flight crew...." etc.), but since it is demonstrably false as stated, I have removed it. One of many references to earlier movement of patients by air with a trained attendant is found in "The Black Hills Engineer", Volume 17, 1929, pages 131-132, which documents this use of a FW aircraft by Dr. Dr. Minty in South Dakota. I have several other references of civilian use following WW2, and documentation of an Air Ambulance Commercial Company in 1947 is documented in "Air Trails Pictorial", Vol XXIX #3, December 1947. "First medivac under fire"

[edit]

The ambulance has existed existed since 1487 and the definition of medivac is very broad, surely someone would of being medevaced under fire before that. Ææqwerty (talk) 11:41, 2 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Note, this article deals with evac by aircraft. - Ahunt (talk) 12:14, 2 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
"using medically equipped ground vehicles (ambulances) or aircraft (air ambulances)."Ææqwerty (talk) 10:10, 8 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for pointing that out. The cited ref does not support that text, so  Fixed. - Ahunt (talk) 15:46, 8 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
