"Incorrectly known as Eros"

[edit]

This may once have been the case, but the listing on the Historic England website acknowledges this alternative, popular name with no further qualification. The notion of it being "incorrect" seems a little pedantic and perhaps now no longer accurate. Stevouk (talk) 13:15, 18 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Removed in 1922?

[edit]

Is there confirmation that the statue was in fact removed in 1922? I have found suggestions that it was still there in 1923, if not later, and construction didn't begin on the ticket hall until 1925. This 1923 map has a little pictogram of the fountain (though this is not proof in itself) and this book appears to have a photo from 1923 that shows the fountain & statue in place in Piccadilly Circus. Update: after confirming with contemporary photos, it seems as though the statue was indeed removed in 1925. The '1922' statement in 'The London Encyclopedia' appears to have been in error. Lizziesarah (talk) 15:20, 30 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
