Pronunciation?

[edit]

Can anyone show the correct pronunciation? I've always assumed that the second 's' was silent, but I'm not really sure.--Alta-Snowbird 14:58, 20 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

On Iron Chef Alton Brown pronounce it with a silent s, as in the name "Sue". — Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.251.190.62 (talk) 17:45, 12 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Brigade system

[edit]

How does this job fit into the Brigade system? Or to put it another way, maybe all the other roles and this one should be linked as a set of articles showing the progression and branches of the cooking - chef world (Line chef - Sous chef - Chef de Cuisine/Executive Chef; specialties etc). --132.3.61.79 (talk) 18:09, 22 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

A new rank for chefs.

[edit]

Recently, on cooking competitions on TV, I've seen contestants describing themselves as the "executive sous chef" for an establishment. From what I understand, and what this article says, this is a contradiction. Does anybody here know just what that job title means or is it just a meaningless title used to make the holder feel important? JDZeff (talk) 21:49, 1 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

"Review" references

[edit]

There were two references cited for the first paragraph of the "Duties and functions" section. "The Buffalo News" reference is a review of the book "Sous Chef" by Michael Gibney, and "The Hindu Business Line" reference is a review of the narrative film "Chef". Neither book review nor film review, currently, support any of the claims made in this article. I have replaced these two references with a "Citation needed" template. If these two references are to be reinstated, then the urls will need to be updated to those used above. Maidenhair (talk) 09:21, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
