Conflict Notice

[edit]

@Kj cheetham

thank you for editing, are you able to proofread and review so the ‘Conflict Notice’ can be removed?

moving forward for any major changes I will do in draft mode and have someone else review.

excited to be part of this community. WillGDell (talk) 17:44, 17 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Remove Conflict

[edit]

hello@Jmcgnh thank you for your help. I am following up by asking to remove the conflict notice from this page as I’ve declared my connection to Wendy Irving on my user page.

thank you :) WillGDell (talk) 18:40, 17 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi WillGDell, and thank you for declaring your COI on your user page. The notice above should still not be removed. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 19:31, 17 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
thank you @Firefangledfeathers what if I have another member proofread and review? Would this help detach the content from being a conflict of interest?
sorry for all the questions, I am new here and still learning.
thank you :)
WillGDell (talk) 20:20, 17 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It's good to ask questions! The notice here, on the talk page, should remain indefinitely. The notice on the article will be removed once there's a consensus among (non-COI) editors that the article is neutral. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 20:51, 17 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Super, thanks so much @Firefangledfeathers
do you know how long the process takes for the consensus from non-COI members? Is there anything I need to do on my end for now?
and I welcome any other tips to make everyone’s lives a bit easier on here as I learn the ropes :)
WillGDell (talk) 21:09, 17 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure how long it will take. If you know of any parts of the article that seem particularly non-neutral, you could suggest an edit. You should probably stop using the help template, but you can ping me if you have more questions. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 21:11, 17 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Super, thank you @Firefangledfeathers I’ll definitely put more thoughts to this. You’ve been so helpful. WillGDell (talk) 21:17, 17 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi WillGDell, sorry I've not responded sooner, I've not been online much in the last couple of days. I should note there is WP:NODEADLINE. As per the WP:BLP policy (BLP = Biographies of Living Person), there is grounds for unsourced contentious material to be removed immediately in some cases, though I don't think that's the case here. I'll have a look at the article today if I get the chance, and can see about removing the tag. Thank you for your cooperation so far nonetheless! -Kj cheetham (talk) 10:50, 19 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
COI tag now removed. :-) Thanks to LittlePuppers and Firefangledfeathers for doing some edits too. I did notice a few statements weren't backed up by references, so I've marked those as needing citations. If you have references for those I'll happily add them to the article for you. -Kj cheetham (talk) 11:02, 19 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
thank you so much @Kj cheetham!
im so impressed with all the help and collaboration from this community. And another thank you to all other members who’ve jumped in to help.
I’m out of country right now, but when I’m back home in March I will dig up the book that features Wendy Dell and send you specific references for the missing citations and any I can’t find I will suggest removing so everything is accurate.
So excited to be more involved with Wiki. WillGDell (talk) 12:26, 19 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
WillGDell Glad to be able to help! Do note though you don't need to use {{help me}} if you're pinging an individual, as that tag is only used for summoning other editors. Feel free to also leave a message on my talk page if ever anything else I can help with in the future too. I do recommend also having a look at other articles where you can lend a hand. -Kj cheetham (talk) 13:24, 19 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Roger that, thanks again @Kj cheetham WillGDell (talk) 13:31, 19 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Kj cheetham I was able to source and upload reference pictures for this page. Are you able to include or can I do this on my side? Here are the pictures:

Hi there @Kj cheetham! Because of my COI, I'd love to take you up on your offer to add the missing references and include some additional content. This should wrap up the page :)

Early life and career
Remove the following as I can't find a citation: "This early success established her as a prominent figure in Canadian equestrian circles.[citation needed]"
Instead could you please add: The cross-country course at Cali was challenging, resulting in the elimination of all teams except Canada. Despite being the only team to finish, the Canadians had every reason to be proud of their achievement in winning the Team Gold Medal.

After her victories in Cali, Wendy began training for the 1972 Munich Olympics with Mr. Herbert and the team at the Eglinton Equestrian Club, participating in numerous Ontario events. Following the final pre-Olympic Trials at Jokers Hill, she departed with the team for Munich.

Olympic breakthrough
Do you mind adding:
The equestrian community was initially shocked and amused when Canada entered three 20-year-olds, including two women, into the Three-Day Event, competing mainly against male cavalry officers and disbelieving South Americans. However, the skeptics were silenced when Wendy Irving from Hull, Quebec, secured a gold medal for the team with a flawless ride on High Wind.**

I cannot find citations for this section, so let's remove the details and replace with:

So sorry, there is a duplicate picture @Kj cheetham. Any chance you could replace the first instance of 1972 Olympics Stadium Wendy Dell.jpg
