A 35-second teaser was released on YouTube on July 3, 2024, expected that it will be quite different from the novel version.[6][7]The official teaser was released on August 8, 2024.[8]
The official trailer was released on September 12, 2024.[9]
Differences from novel
[edit]Death Whisperer 2 is loosely based on the novel Tee Yod... The Ends of a Mad Groan by Krittanon,[10] the sequel of Tee Yod... Heard a Mad Groan by the same author. It is quite different from the novel version:
- There is no character named Namphet, the daughter of Serge Paphan, who is the one who provides information to Yak about the origin of the ghost in black, referring to journal hebdomadaire during the King Rama V's reign called Vajrayana Viset. Namphet is a female protagonist who has feelings of love for Yak.
- The story in the novel takes place in 1977, five years after the first part, but in the film, it takes place in 1975, only three years after it's precursor.
- The role of Yak family characters in the novel is very small, only mentioned. In the film version, their roles are quite large.[10]
- The scene in Phrom Phiram district, Phitsanulok province, takes place on a moving train and also refers to Phrom Phiram murder case, actual crimes that occurred during that time. However, in the film version, it is only an introduction before entering the story. It is a scene where Yak goes to subdue a man who is possessed by a ghost.
- There have been quite a few changes to the names of the supporting characters, such as Tevin becoming Jirasak, Kampang becoming Navin etc. Including the absence of Dong Khamod the ghost forest in the novel version.
- In the novel, Yad is married and has one child, but her husband's name is not mentioned. In the film version, Yad is about to get married, with her fiancé named Pradit, who is also an important character.
- The hotel scene in Uttaradit town in the novel was changed to be the location of Yad and Pradit's wedding and the climax of the film.
- There is no Chauy character in the novel version.
