Template-protected edit request on 17 June 2024

[edit]

@Paine Ellsworth: Answered last time. Could you do it again? Noticed that the WikiProject changed the image that is being used on this template to File:Numelon Logo.png. Find this slightly controversial, wondering if you could either change it to that or File:Flag of Palestine.svg (least controversial option). xq 23:46, 17 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Questions: honestly not sure what to do here, editor xq. Should we require consensus? Why does the portal use the flag and the WP use the melon? What is the significance if any of the melon? Who else wants to replace the peasant family? Who doesn't want to replace them? As a TE I'm not used to making this type of decision, this type of choice, for a WP of which I'm not a member. If you make a choice, then maybe we'll try it and see if it flies? P.I. Ellsworth , ed. put'er there 14:59, 18 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I agree, extremely confused on what to do. Inconsistency sucks. I think we need a consensus. 48JCL 15:10, 18 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
In that case, and since this is a good place for the discussion, I suggest placing neutral notices in appropriate places such as WT:WikiProject Palestine & Portal talk:Palestine in order to garner consensus. P.I. Ellsworth , ed. put'er there 15:27, 18 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Paine Ellsworth: they have gone with the watermelon. 48JCL 16:39, 2 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
no Disagree - deliberation was minimal, and there is not consensus about this decision yet. Tule-hog (talk) 20:36, 6 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
File:Numelon Logo.png this by the way 48JCL 16:39, 2 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I see that. And  completed. P.I. Ellsworth , ed. put'er there 18:22, 2 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure of the best route to do so, but notifying more project editors feels appropriate for this change. I figure spam tagging all members is uncouth. Tule-hog (talk) 21:21, 6 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Paine Ellsworth: commons has added the png image to the list of Commons:Top 200 logo images that should use vector graphics. I have created an equivalent svg version at File:Watermelon logo.svg – please could you move the image to the svg? Onceinawhile (talk) 11:15, 2 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

To editor Onceinawhile: yes, of course, and  completed. P.I. Ellsworth , ed. put'er there 13:44, 2 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It should absolutely be the Palestinian flag, WPPIsrael for example has the Israeli flag. Why is there a watermelon, an unofficial symbol, being used here? nableezy - 21:06, 5 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Agree - see previous reasoning to oppose a flag above and its partial resolution. The flag is the WP:NPOV and standardized choice. Tule-hog (talk) 20:39, 6 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Courtesy ping to Paine Ellsworth in light of ongoing consensus discussion. Tule-hog (talk) 20:44, 6 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
To editor Tule-hog: the discussion at WT:WikiProject Palestine#Template:WikiProject Palestine appears to have take a turn toward using the flag. Just to be certain, the flag editors want is File:Flag of Palestine.svg, correct? P.I. Ellsworth , ed. put'er there 01:51, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. nableezy - 02:02, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Agree: it's used on {{User WP Palestine}} and WikiProject Palestine as well, so the WikiProject appears to prefer it. Tule-hog (talk) 02:03, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've changed the banner image to the flag. P.I. Ellsworth , ed. put'er there 03:24, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
See original justification for use of the symbol instead of flag. Tule-hog (talk) 20:57, 6 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thats a name I'm very fond of, and while that may have been true once upon a time, I dont think anybody will a. try, or b. succeed in removing the template from any relevant page. nableezy - 21:24, 6 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
