Waldorf Astoria Edits

Hi - My name is Frank Caiafa and I am the author of the Waldorf Astoria Bar Book and just wanted to be sure the the hotel's important link to cocktail culture was included on its page. All information is verifiable and true. Also, the line that I removed regarding 'Sir Harry's' bar and its 'creation' of the Rob Roy and Bobby Burns cocktail are incorrect and needs to be removed. They were creations of the old bar at the original hotel on Fifth Avenue. Can I submit my changes to someone at Wiki and have them upload? Please advise and thank you for your time. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Factumirror (talkcontribs) 16:00, 3 December 2017 (UTC)

@Factumirror: Thank you for pointing this out. First of all, I appreciate the effort you placed into writing the book, and I think it will be a very helpful reference. Second, I initially removed your additions because they need inline citations. I won't object to you restoring that content if you can add inline references, preferably with page numbers. In the meantime, I will remove the incorrect information you pointed out. epicgenius 16:05, 3 December 2017 (UTC)
In case you haven't seen it, I've restored your edits now. epicgenius 23:13, 3 December 2017 (UTC)

DYK for Flushing Meadows–Corona Park

On 8 December 2017, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Flushing Meadows–Corona Park, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Flushing Meadows–Corona Park in New York City hosted two world's fairs? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Flushing Meadows–Corona Park. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Flushing Meadows–Corona Park), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Hampshire House

Can I suggest the creation of Hampshire House. I already created its item in wikidata Q44406603 and there is a nice gallery on Commons. Please, please, please! I love your work on Chrysler Building (hoping to be on FAC soon). Txitxo1 (talk) 15:58, 8 December 2017 (UTC)

@Txitxo1: I can definitely create Draft:Hampshire House for now, then move it into article space later. And thanks for the compliment. I'm just cleaning up the Chrysler Building article, and I hope to bring that and also Empire State Building, Rockefeller Center, and Construction of Rockefeller Center to FAC. epicgenius 19:05, 8 December 2017 (UTC)

Issue with Template:NYCS 63rd Lexington

I have an issue with Template:NYCS 63rd Lexington. They currently look like this:

  • "F" train"F" express train"N" train"Q" train"R" train
  • F all times <F> two rush hour trains, peak directionN limited weekday rush hour service onlyQ all timesR one a.m. rush hour trip in the northbound direction only
  • F all times <F> two rush hour trains, peak directionN limited weekday rush hour service onlyQ all timesR one a.m. rush hour trip in the northbound direction only
  • F, <F>, N, Q, and R
  • F (all times) <F> (two rush hour trains, peak direction)
N (limited weekday rush hour service only)
    Q (all times)
R (one a.m. rush hour trip in the northbound direction only)
  • F all times (all times) <F> two rush hour trains, peak direction (two rush hour trains, peak direction)
N limited weekday rush hour service only (limited weekday rush hour service only)
    Q all times (all times)
R one a.m. rush hour trip in the northbound direction only (one a.m. rush hour trip in the northbound direction only)
  •    F all times (all times) <F> two rush hour trains, peak direction (two rush hour trains, peak direction)
N limited weekday rush hour service only (limited weekday rush hour service only)
       Q all times (all times)

  •    F all times <F> two rush hour trains, peak direction

       Q all times
R one a.m. rush hour trip in the northbound direction only
  •  F   <F>  N  Q  R

The way they appear now is not the way they they should appear. And because the template source is so complex, I do not know how to edit it. The way the template should appear should look like this (using Template:NYCS 14th Eighth as example):

  • "A" train"C" train"E" train"L" train
  • A all timesC all except late nightsE all timesL all times
  • A all timesC all except late nightsE all timesL all times
  • A, C, E, and L
  • A (all times)
    C (all except late nights)
    E (all times)
    L (all times)
  • A all times (all times)
C all except late nights (all except late nights)
    E all times (all times)
    L all times (all times)
  •    A all times (all times)
C all except late nights (all except late nights)
       E all times (all times)
       L all times (all times)
  •    A all times
       C all except late nights
       E all times
       L all times
  •  A  C  E  L

Do you know how I could correct it? Or if you can do so, can you correct the template when you get the chance. Let me know if you can make the changes so we can fix the infobox on the page Lexington Avenue–63rd Street (63rd Street Lines). And PS: don't edit the info in the parenthesis

--Davidng913 (talk) 19:16, 14 December 2017 (UTC)

@Davidng913: I have fixed it. The template {{NYCS 63rd BMT}} was missing the {{{complex}}} parameter so I added it in. epicgenius 00:16, 15 December 2017 (UTC)

stub tag sorter

Hi! I am trying to install your stub tag software "subst:iusc|User:Epicgenius/stubtag.js".
So I go to my commons.js page User:Nikolaiho/common.js and at the bottom add : {{subst:iusc|User:Epicgenius/stubtag.js}} but it says "Warning: Label 'subst' on iusc statement" and has a red cross next to it.
What am I doing wrong and how can I install the thing? Thanks!! NikolaiHo☎️ 01:11, 20 December 2017 (UTC)

@Nikolaiho: That is normal. When you put the code in a new line and save it, the result should be
importScript( 'User:Epicgenius/stubtag.js' ); // Backlink: [[User:Epicgenius/stubtag.js]]

epicgenius 01:43, 20 December 2017 (UTC)

Hi Epicgenius and sorry for bothering you. Is there any documentation for the stub sorter, I am having trouble using it. I click the "more" tab, then click "stub tag". Then a bunch of categories show up under the title but when I click it, nothing happens. How do I use it? Thanks!!!! NikolaiHo☎️ 03:37, 20 December 2017 (UTC)
@Nikolaiho: The gadget is a little glitchy right now. I have started working on a new version. epicgenius 05:20, 20 December 2017 (UTC)

A user keeps changing an image on the Staten Island Railway article

Do you think that their concern is valid? Thanks.--Kew Gardens 613 (talk) 12:52, 22 December 2017 (UTC)

No I do not. Please stop your trying to own this article. The alternative picture provided, was actually a decent photo. There is no reason to not change the main picture of an article once every while, especially if it is of good quality. Morphenniel (talk) 14:54, 22 December 2017 (UTC)
@Kew Gardens 613, Morphenniel, and Davidng913: I think you should all discuss the merits of each image on the talk page. You should gain consensus instead of undoing each other's edits. epicgenius 15:13, 22 December 2017 (UTC) epicgenius 15:14, 22 December 2017 (UTC)

Requested GOCE copy-edit for Chrysler Building

Merry Christmas!

Spread the WikiLove; use {{subst:Season's Greetings1}} to send this message

I wish you Happy Holidays and I wish you the best for the upcoming year. Thanks again for all your great work on articles in WP:NYCPT. A lot would not get done without you. If you are not aware, I have been editing a lot of articles concerning the Staten Island Railway as of late, and I have been adding a lot of information that I have discovered to the History of the Staten Island Railway article. As you probably know I have nominated it to be a Good Article, but have yet to hear a response. When you have a chance, can you see if there any issues with the additional content that I have added to the article, and see if there is anything else in the article that needs to be worked on? Thanks again! --Kew Gardens 613 (talk) 15:49, 25 December 2017 (UTC)

@Kew Gardens 613: No problem. I appreciate all the work that you've done as well, and I also wish you a happy holiday season. I may look over the History of the Staten Island Railway article in greater depth later, but I think you should first fix any possible copyright violations. epicgenius 16:58, 25 December 2017 (UTC)
I thought that I had removed as many perceived copy vios that I could, but apparently I was wrong. All similar phrases to those mentioned in Edward Bommer's article have been removed, and now the detector states that a violation is unlikely. The only two websites listed in the detector are ones that copy from the article. Is there anything else I should do now concerning the article? Thanks.--Kew Gardens 613 (talk) 18:36, 25 December 2017 (UTC)
I appreciate that you have fixed these violations. I'd suggest also placing a request at the Guild of Copyeditors. A volunteer should look over the article and do some copyediting. epicgenius 19:37, 25 December 2017 (UTC)
Thanks for the suggestion.--Kew Gardens 613 (talk) 19:52, 25 December 2017 (UTC)

SIR Track Maps

I like the track maps you have been making. Have you been using Peter Dougherty's book for the track layout?--Kew Gardens 613 (talk) 21:22, 25 December 2017 (UTC)

@Kew Gardens 613: I actually used the online version of Doughtery's book on nycsubway.org, and I also double-checked with this map. However, for the SIR maps, I've been using Google Earth since neither has an SIR map. epicgenius 04:12, 26 December 2017 (UTC)

TWA Hotel

Hi. The creator of the TWA Hotel article put it up for DYK, but because the article seemed to have been written without knowledge of the TWA Flight Center article and had other issues as well, my review of the nomination at Template:Did you know nominations/TWA Hotel said it should be merged into TWA Flight Center. However you have now improved TWA Hotel and I am wondering whether it should stay a separate article, especially if there is a lot of new construction and replacing of original features. I am not sure how other similar cases have been handled, where a structure completely changes purpose – in most cases I think there is just one article for the original purpose, such as Pro-Cathedral of the Holy Apostles or Good Shepherd Cathedral, Ayr. Maybe it depends upon whether the new purpose achieves a lot of attention in its own right? Anyway, if you think it should remain separate I will reopen the DYK nomination and add you as a contributor. Wasted Time R (talk) 14:42, 26 December 2017 (UTC)

@Wasted Time R: Thanks for letting me know about this nomination. I think it would be best for now if the TWA Hotel article remained separate, but with a short synopsis added at the TWA Flight Center article. The hotel seems to have marginal notability in its own right, but I'm really not sure about whether the hotel should definitely have its own article. The two pages could be merged in the future if the hotel turns out not to be that notable. epicgenius 21:47, 26 December 2017 (UTC)

Waldorf Astoria New York article and the International Debutante Ball

Hi Epicgenius, I saw that you removed a lot of my examples of debutantes who have participated in the International Debutante Ball in the Waldorf Astoria New York article since you said that there is already an article about this so I did not have to mention it in detail in the Waldorf Astoria NY article.

But to clarify why I did that: none of the examples I mentioned (of notable debutantes and famous families who have participated in the ball) are actually mentioned in the International Debutante Ball article since I checked the history of of the International Debutante Ball article and it looks like a user called Bromley86 has claimed ownership of that article (which I believe is not allowed on Wikipedia) and does not allow anyone to add or edit anything on the International Debutante Ball article (since it seems like he removes everyone's edits). If I cannot add the examples I mentioned in the Waldorf Astoria NY article (which all have refs), since you said there is already an article to mention all of this (in the international debutante ball article), why is nobody allowed to add any good faith edits about famous debutante families (all with refs) in the International Debutante Ball article according to Bromley86? Hope you can clarify and help with this situation, before I add the info again - I would really appreciate your help!

It is strange why that user (Bromley86) will not allow anyone to make any good faith edits in the International Debutante Ball article, since there is another debutante ball called Le Bal des débutantes which is full of puffery and not a good structure for a Wikipedia article and he seems to allow that based on what I have seen in his edit history (but he removes everything in the International Debutante Ball article according to his point of view without really discussing it with anyone)--Imchris00 (talk) 16:32, 29 December 2017 (UTC)

@Imchris00: In that case, I apologize for removing the info from the Waldorf Astoria article. I didn't realize that the info was not in the Debutante Ball article. I just wanted to trim the info since the paragraph was 20 lines long. But adding a list of all notable people is also not recommended. A few examples, on the other hand, are acceptable for both articles.
If Bromley86 was assuming ownership over the article, that is a violation of Wikipedia policy. I don't think that's the case here, though, since they seem to be mainly removing unsourced material. I suggest that you open a section at Talk:International Debutante Ball or Talk:Waldorf Astoria New York so we can discuss the inclusion of these names. epicgenius 16:58, 29 December 2017 (UTC)
Thanks for the info and clarification @Epicgenius:! I will start adding the info, with refs, to the International Debutante Ball article and I will certainly get back to you if I need the help! Cheers--Imchris00 (talk) 18:33, 29 December 2017 (UTC)
