Five Pillars of Wikipedia

Float around for awhile until you find something that tickles your fancy. One easy way to do this is to hit the random page button in the navigation bar to the left. There are also many great committees and groups that focus on particular jobs. My personal favorite stomping grounds are Wikipedia:Translation into English and Wikipedia:Cleanup for sloppy articles. Finally, the Wikimedia Foundation has several other wiki projects that you might enjoy.

There are a few crucial points to keep in mind when editing. Be civil with users, strive to maintain a neutral point of view, verify your information, and show good etiquette like signing your comments with four tildes like this: ~~~~ If you have any more questions, always feel free to ask me anything on my talk page or ask the true experts at Wikipedia:Help desk. Again, welcome! -- Draeco 06:57, 25 December 2005 (UTC) [reply]

My Apology

[edit]

I apologize for prodding the page you made. At the time, I thought prodding was the way to go. Had I looked more closely, I would not have prodded the page. When I follow the newest articles at Special:Newpages it's like taking a hefty dose of caffeine. I digress. I just wanted to say that as a human, I err (sometimes more often than other times). I look forward to seeing new articles from you in the Newpages area! - Bladeswin | Talk to me | 05:14, 12 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sarah Jacobson proposed for deletion

[edit]

Someone has tagged the article that you helped created on Sarah Jacobson for deletion. If you don't want this article deleted I recommend that you join in the debate and leave feedback on the talk page - click here. --David Straub 07:43, 16 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Make sure to leave some comments at the proposed deletion page too at click here - And if you have any friends make sure they leave comments too. Other wise it will probably get deleted. Also, add some more sources and citations. If you have several that will lessen the likelyhood of deletion.--David Straub 11:04, 16 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I think you've improved the article to the point that they would have a hardtime justifying it's deletion now. It would help if you also found sources for information in the last paragraph. Also, the editors on wikipedia get really anal about all the correct tags and coding, because it's a pain for them to have to fix all of it. They'd rather delete a page then fix it. I input the wikipedia tags for the references. One problem is that once these editors propose a page for deletion they'll ask all of their editors friends to support them in deleting it. So you may want to go to the talk pages of anyone who has supported the deletion proposal and leave comments. Finally, a lot of these editors who propose deletions write really horrible articles themselves, and you might want to point that out. I'll keep an eye on the page. --David Straub 01:02, 17 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yea, that was impressive the support this article got in the end. Good job updating the article. If you need any other help in the future let me. Bytheway, I was in the same high school as Sarah Jacobson. She was two years ahead of me, but I never knew her. It was only later I learned that I had gone to school with a film director and then the next thing I knew she had died. Life goes fast! --David Straub 12:56, 19 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

List of queercore bands

[edit]

There has been some discussion about removing external links from the List of queercore bands page -- do you want to take a look and see what your opinion is?--Larrybob 01:33, 9 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the response. I agree that it is useful information. I have worked for a long time to try to share information about queer culture through my zines and websites, like Queer bands on tour. There are sites that have tried doing collaborative queer culture things which weren't exactly wiki-like, more like collaborative blogs, like Queerkit and Queerpunks.com. It's a little frustrating that there doesn't seem to be one central place where everyone knows to go (though even when there is a central place like GayHipHop.com not everyone goes there...) Bands come and go, and not every one is notable enough to warrant a Wikipedia article. There is certainly plenty of other stuff in Wikipedia which is not encyclopediac in nature. --Larrybob 18:39, 10 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The article has now been deleted, but I saved the content in my user space: User:Larrybob/List_of_queercore_bands -- information may be useful in the future. --Larrybob 19:29, 3 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Keep on the Sunny Side: A Tribute to the Carter Family, an article you created, has been nominated for deletion. We appreciate your contributions. However, an editor does not feel that Keep on the Sunny Side: A Tribute to the Carter Family satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in the nomination space (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and the Wikipedia deletion policy). Your opinions on the matter are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Keep on the Sunny Side: A Tribute to the Carter Family and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You are free to edit the content of Keep on the Sunny Side: A Tribute to the Carter Family during the discussion but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion discussion. Thank you. Spellcast 08:41, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You added a link to Daniel Nicoletta at Harvey Milk, which is currently being reviewed at WP:FAC. This is not the best time to add a link to an article that doesn't exist; it might weigh against us at FAC. Is there an article coming in the near future on Daniel? I have nominated Outpunk Dance Party, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Outpunk Dance Party. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

The article Bruce and Pepper Wayne Gacy's Home Movies has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable film lacking GHits and GNEWs of substance. Appears to fail WP:NOTFILM.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. ttonyb (talk) 03:45, 19 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have reverted your edit to the Categories for Discussion (CFD) debate at CFD January 14 on Category:Canadian record label compilation albums. That discussion had been closed, and was clearly marked as such: "The above is preserved as an archive of the discussion. Please do not modify it."

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, Intheshadows. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the page Fifth Column (band), you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. many of your edits over the years seem to be around this band and their members. Graywalls (talk) 20:34, 17 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Intheshadows. The nature of your edits, such as the one you made to G.B. Jones, gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.

Paid advocates are very strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are extremely strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.

Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:Intheshadows. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Intheshadows|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. appears to be connected to or editing for Fifth Column or their related members. Graywalls (talk) 18:34, 19 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • My dear friend User:Bearcat, can you tell this editor Graywalls to stop haranguing me. I did one edit after not editing for months and he or she has accused me of being a paid editor. If this was the case, editing a couple of edits every few months is sure not going to bring home the bacon, that's all I can say. Right?Intheshadows (talk) 23:51, 20 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
The above is a standardized boiler plate message. Your edit pattern over the years suggests possible connection to G.B. Jones and/or Fifth Column (band). I left you the first note. You did not communicate, however you were editing G.B. Jones again shortly thereafter. I left you another note asking you to clarify whether or not you have any connection to the band, but you were right back to editing G.B. Jones again without taking a moment to clarify the simple matter asked in the request. You technically did respond but, it is not all clear what you're saying.
