    Requests for permissions

This page enables administrators to handle requests for permissions on the English Wikipedia. Administrators are able to modify account creator, autopatrolled, confirmed, file mover, extended confirmed, mass message sender, new page reviewer, page mover, pending changes reviewer, rollback, and template editor rights, and AutoWikiBrowser access.

Editors wishing to request a permission flag here should do so following the procedure below. Editors requesting permissions are advised to periodically revisit the requests page, as notifications will not always be given after a decision is made. Editors should not expect their request to be answered right away and should remember to be patient when filing a request. To find out what permissions your account has, go to Special:Preferences, where your permissions are listed in the user profile tab under "Member of groups".

Requests for permissions are archived regularly; please see Wikipedia:Requests for permissions/Archive for an index of past requests.

    Permissions

    Handled here

    • Account creator (add request · view requests): The account creator flag is granted to users who are active in the request an account process. The flag removes the limit on the maximum number of new accounts that can be created in a 24 hour period. It also allows users to make accounts with names similar to other accounts. The account creator flag is only given to users who participate in the ACC process and may be removed without notice should a user's participation in the account creation process cease.
    • Autopatrolled (add request · view requests): The autopatrolled flag is granted to users who are active in the creation of new articles. This tool is granted so their creations are auto patrolled in Special:NewPages. Unlike other requests, any user may nominate an editor for Autopatrolled, even without that user's consent. A user who wishes to have this flag generally should have created at least 25 articles and must be trusted, experienced, and must have demonstrated they are familiar with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, especially WP:BLP and Wikipedia:Notability.
    • AutoWikiBrowser (add request · view requests): AutoWikiBrowser is a semi-automated MediaWiki editor for Microsoft Windows, designed to make tedious repetitive tasks quicker and easier. It is essentially a browser that automatically opens up a new page when the last is saved. When set to do so, it suggests some changes (typically formatting) that are generally meant to be incidental to the main change. Please read the rules of use and registration requirements on the main page before requesting permission. This is not a true user right, but access needs to be granted by administrators just like other permissions. If approved, your name will be added to the CheckPage. Users with under 250 non-automated mainspace edits or 500 total mainspace edits are rarely approved. You will need to give a reason for wanting AWB access.
    • Confirmed (add request · view requests): The confirmed flag may be granted to new users who have not yet hit the threshold for autoconfirmed status. These are users who have not had both 10 edits and 4 days experience. People with this flag can upload files and edit semi-protected pages before hitting the autoconfirmed flag. Users requesting this flag must indicate clearly why they should be exempted from the customary confirmation period.
    • Event coordinator (add request · view requests): The event coordinator user right allows editors to create multiple new accounts, and to temporarily confirm accounts so that they can create new articles.
    • Extended confirmed (add request · view requests): The extended confirmed flag is normally automatically added to accounts after 500 edits and 30 days, but may be added to legitimate alternate accounts of users that already have this access. The flag allows users to edit pages under extended confirmed protection.
    • File mover (add request · view requests): The file mover user right is intended to allow users experienced in working with files to rename them, subject to policy, with the ease that autoconfirmed users already enjoy when renaming Wikipedia articles.
    • Mass message sender (add request · view requests): Mass message sender enables users to send messages to multiple users at once. This flag is given to users who have made requests for delivery in the past, clearly showing an understanding of the guidance for use.
    • New page reviewer (add request · view requests): The new page reviewer user right allows users to mark pages as patrolled and use the page curation toolbar. At administrators' discretion, the right may be accorded on a time limited basis or indefinite.
    • Page mover (add request · view requests): The page mover user right allows users experienced in working with article names to move them, subject to policy, without leaving behind a redirect. They may also move all subpages when moving the parent page(s). General guidelines include making 3,000 edits and 6 months of editing history. At administrators' discretion, the right may be accorded on a time limited basis or indefinite.
    • Pending changes reviewer (add request · view requests): The reviewer flag is granted to users who are experienced enough with Wikipedia editing and its policies for contributing to the process of reviewing articles placed under pending changes.
    • Rollback (add request · view requests): Rollback enables users to remove vandalism much more quickly and efficiently than by undoing it. Users who do not demonstrate an understanding of what constitutes capable vandalism fighting, either because they have no or little history of doing so, or show a poor ability to discern between good and bad faith edits will not be granted this right. Also, it is unlikely that editors with under 200 mainspace edits will have their request granted. For a more detailed explanation of rollback and information about when it is appropriate to use the tool, see Wikipedia:Rollback. For information about the technical details of the feature, see here.
    • Template editor (add request · view requests): The template editor flag allows users to edit protected templates and Lua modules. General guidelines for granting include making at least 1,000 edits overall (with at least 150 to templates or modules), being a registered user for over a year, and having a record of successfully proposing significant edits to several protected templates. Users should demonstrate proficiency with template syntax and an understanding of the need for caution when editing heavily-used templates.

    Handled elsewhere

Several permissions are requested and handled elsewhere:

    Removal of permissions

If you wish to have any of your permission flags (except administrator) removed, you should contact an administrator. If you want your administrator flag removed, you should contact a bureaucrat.

This is not the place to request review of another user's rights. If you believe someone's actions merit removal of a permission flag, you should raise your concern at the incidents noticeboard.

The bureaucrat, checkuser, and oversight flags are removed at meta:Steward requests/Permissions. Stewards will typically not carry out such requests unless they are made on behalf of the Arbitration Committee, by a user who is requesting their own access be removed, or in cases of an emergency.

    Process

    Requestors

To make a request for a permission, click "add request" next to the appropriate header and fill in the reason for wanting permission.

Any editor may comment on requests for permission.

    Administrators

Administrators are permitted to grant account creator, autopatrolled, confirmed, event coordinator, file mover, mass message sender, new page reviewer, page mover, pending changes reviewer, rollback and template editor flags to any user who meets the criteria explained above and can be trusted not to abuse the tool(s). Administrators may either grant these permissions permanently or temporarily. For convenience, a bot will automatically comment with relevant data if the user does not meet configurable qualifications. Even if the bot does not comment, administrators should review the user's contributions and logs to ensure the tools will be used appropriately and check for any indication of potential misuse.

Once an administrator has granted a permission or decided to deny a request, they should add {{done}} or {{not done}} respectively under the request with their comments. If a user already has the requested permission, or is autoconfirmed and requesting confirmed, {{already done}} should be used. N hours after the last comment was made (as specified by the config), the request will be archived automatically: approved requests will be placed here; declined requests will go here. See User:MusikBot/PermClerk#Archiving for more information on archiving functionality.

    Other editors

Requests for permissions is primarily intended for editors requesting a permission for their own account. Other editors are welcome to comment if they have specific information that is relevant to that request that a patrolling administrator is unlikely to discover for themselves. Otherwise, since only administrators can effectively respond to these requests, general comments or 'clerking' by other users are rarely helpful. Non-administrators cannot "decline" to grant a request, because they're not in a position to accept it.

A limited exception to this is Wikipedia:Requests for permissions/Autopatrolled, where third party nominations are encouraged. Other editors should still avoid offering general remarks on requests and leave the final decision to an administrator.

    Autopatrolled

Meets the minimum criteria, and a random sampling of their creations doesn't raise any red flags. My only concern is their liberal use of quotations in reception sections, but I don't consider it an overly serious issue for this permission as the copyright reports come away otherwise clean; I've also started a discussion on their talk page about it. Dear Wikipedia Admins, I am requesting the Autopatrolled right to further support my contributions to Wikipedia. While I may not have thousands of edits or article creations, my work is rooted in careful research and learning from experienced editors. My focus is on Iranian early modern, modern, and contemporary art and culture, especially highlighting the stories of Iranian women often overlooked in history. I ensure all my edits are supported by reliable, academic sources, and I have a track record of accurate contributions with very few reverts. I believe that having the Autopatrolled right would allow me to continue enhancing the articles related to Iran and Iranian art and culture. Thank you for your consideration. Warm regards, Hounaam (talk) 22:53, 6 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I am requesting the Autopatrolled right, like any other editor, to help reduce the NPP work load. I have worked at AFC/NPP/AFD, and I've created good articles that would pass a deletion discussion if nominated. Cheers! Safari ScribeEdits! Talk! 11:47, 7 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

They have created 60 Japanese-related articles, the majority of which are BLPs. None of them have been deleted, and no major issues were found upon my quick checks. Thank you. GrabUp - Talk 16:40, 7 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Not done All you ever create are two-sentence bios, and those are quick to patrol. We cannot assign autopatrolled for editors who produce bios if they've never written a complete one; you need to show us that you know how to do that. All your bios are missing the sortkey; please read WP:DEFAULTSORT, Chiku2004. I'd also like you to place the relevant stub tag. Schwede66 19:08, 12 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    @Cocobb8, importScript('User:Ohconfucius/script/MOSNUM dates.js'); ''// Backlink: [[User:Ohconfucius/script/MOSNUM dates.js]]'' this could help? Best, Reading Beans 15:59, 3 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Reading Beans Yes it would, but that was just en example. I also take part in the Wikipedia Unreferenced Articles project and often find very similar articles that need the same edit done to multiple of them, which is also why I'd find AWB beneficial. Cocobb8 (💬 talk • ✏️ contribs) 15:33, 4 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I've been asked to create talk pages (linking to wikiprojects) for category pages which I have created. This would be easy with AWB (there are a lot of them). Perspicax (talk) 13:37, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

AWB would be helpful for tasks like fixing simple citation template errors, which I've been doing off and on since I made an account. I'd also like to continue leaning into other WikiGnome things (typos, ...). FifthFive (talk) 04:17, 7 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I'm improving references by adding wikilinks to relevant parameters. See this AWBREQ for example. I don't plan on doing this across-the-board, just for articles that I'd edit either way and I notice missing links. Thanks Nobody (talk) 12:14, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I have been a registered user on Wikipedia for several years, with over 500 undeleted mainspace edits. I possess a strong understanding of content policies and guidelines, supported by my experience in quality control processes. I have actively participated in deletion processes like AfD, PROD, and CSD, contributed to Articles for Creation, and written new articles. I maintain a solid track record of interacting civilly and constructively with other editors, especially newcomers. I have no active behavioral blocks or 3RR violations within the last 6 months, and I am committed to reviewing pages solely on a volunteer basis. Imad_J (talk) 13:26, 3 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

عماد الدين المقدسي, could you comment on your creation of Tyrone Smith (musician) in 2020? While old substandard articles are not automatically disqualifying for this permission, between the lack of extensive article creations since then (or even just edits on en.wiki in general since then), and the fact that the article has been repeatedly recreated and deleted via WP:A7, it does raise some concern. signed, Rosguill talk 18:56, 3 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I often move poorly-titled pages to more appropriate titles, usually to make them more WP:CONCISE, specific, neutral, or to correct spelling and transliterations. I also revert undiscussed moves in line with WP:RMUM. I would greatly appreciate having the ability to manage this myself. Skitash (talk) 21:43, 30 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Not done. You've only performed a total of 30 page moves and have 0 edits to WP:RMTR. I don't see a need for the perm at this point, nor do I see enough experience with page moves yet. Hey man im josh (talk) 19:17, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I'd like to get this right to delete unnecessary redirects (i.e. move pages over existing single revision redirects regardless of target). Additionally, I would also like to try to harmonize some pages of Spanish municipalities with the name of the country and the province (when necessary) instead of other subnational units (such as comarca). Moreover if a double denomination exists in some cases, I shall use the slash with spaces in between to enhance visual effect of different linguistic nomenclatures. However if an English form is more relevant I shall use it instead of double and local denominations. Other than that I could help elsewhere to move pages if necessary. Thank you, Nuvolet (talk)

I recently requested page mover permissions two months ago to help with the post-move cleanup of LGBTQ related articles following the rename of the article (and related Portal:LGBTQ and WP:WikiProject LGBTQ+ studies and related categories, following their respective RM's) and was granted the permissions for 2 months to automatically expire. I have since helped move a whole lot of uncontroversial pages to reflect the new consensus and participated in RMs for potentially more controversial ones, but there are still many more pages left, that I don't expect to be done by end of the month before my permissions would expire. I have since the request and the related Requested Move discussions gained a lot more experience in the space and find it quite interesting, so I'm coming here to request for the permission to be extended indefinitely as I would also like to continue to help with WP:RM/TR and getting more involved in being able to close RM's if they require moves with page mover permissions outside of just the LGBTQ article space, which I will continue to help move and the related post move cleanups (which I have helped do for not just articles I have moved myself, but also on behalf of several articles others have moved but missed to update related templates and such). I've been doing RC Patrolling (as a part of Anti-Vandalism) on Wikipedia for a while now, and I think that having the Pending Changes reviewer permission could be a good idea - there have been numerous instances involving a pending changes edit that I look at while looking through Special:RecentChanges that i wanted to accept/deny/etc, and i feel that this permission would be beneficial for my efficeincy. Rollback

I regularly patrol the recent changes page using filters that flag edits that may have problems or could be vandalism. With confirmed vandals, I keep an eye on their contributions for a short time afterwards to catch any resumed vandalism, while continuing to patrol recent changes. I previously used RedWarn, but I currently use UltraViolet and Twinkle. Rollback would enhance my recent change patrolling and anti-vandalism efforts. Thank you. R0paire-wiki (talk) 04:48, 8 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I see that you are failing to consistently warn editors when you revert their edits (e.g. 1, 2, 3). Why? It's important to leave a notification for every revert you make. Are you aware that we have tools such as Twinkle or Ultraviolet that make this extremely easy? -Fastily 05:57, 8 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes I do use those tools, I believe in those cases I was concerned about biting a newcomer from a good faith or unnecessary edit, though I should have still given a notification to their talk to explain the reversion (which I now see more soft-worded warnings when using UV). I appreciate the feedback, I'll just continue as is without Rollback but being more thorough when giving any warnings or notices. Thank you. R0paire-wiki (talk) 00:43, 9 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Appreciate the honesty, please feel free to reapply when you're feeling more prepared. Closing as  Not done -Fastily 19:07, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason for requesting rollback rights: I have seen multiple non-notable articles specifically about pages of Indian armed forces officials which have been vandalised and since they are not visited regularly by people with rollback rights, it is difficult to revert them line by line. Sensitive regional topic related articles too aren't regularly visited by editors, hence once vandalised, it may take weeks or even months for such articles to get to the notice of mainstream editors. I generally resort to line by line editing and proof reading of such articles which I find, hence have less reverting and undo count. I am a trusted editor, hence any concerns about misuse of this right may be disposed. VSankeerthSai1609 (talk) 08:08, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Not done You don't need rollback to undo inappropriate edits. If you're still interested in this tool then please spend at least a month actively patrolling RecentChanges (Twinkle & Ultraviolet can help with that) before reapplying. Also, please ensure that you are consistently warning editors when you revert their edits. Thanks, Fastily 19:07, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. I have read all the policies and guidelines, I have 200 mainspace edits. Can I get Rollback? Electrou (formerly Susbush) (talk) 10:00, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Not done given the numerous complaints on your talk page regarding everything from bad reverts to blatant copyright violations. I think it's too soon to be assigning you advanced permissions. Please heed the advice on your talk page and spend a few more months establishing a track record of positive contributions before reapplying. Thanks, Fastily 05:26, 12 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Blatant copyright vios? I don't do that anymore, If I wait 2 months, can I get Rollback? Electrou (formerly Susbush) (talk) 09:46, 12 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason for requesting rollback rights: I have done TWO rollback rights request, and I am happy to say that I have surpassed 200 mainspace edits and have also surpassed 1 month of Recent Changes Patrolling.I love the ability to help, and I already love to prevent vandalism with the help of Ultraviolet and Twinkle. I am ready to join the rollbacker force to get access to more tools, like AntiVandal and Huggle for even faster response. Don't worry, I won't bite the newcomers unless necessary! Could you please comment on this edit and subsequent warning from @Oblivy. Why did you make this edit and do you believe it was appropriate for Oblivy to warn you? -Fastily 05:26, 12 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Template editor

I already work on templates from time to time, to improve formatting, fix links, add features, etc. My record speaks for itself that I am careful in making changes. Thanks. P 1 9 9   13:27, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Primefac: My "need for the right, as well as a familiarity with the care and responsibility required" is proven by my overall record and experience with WP, not necessarily meeting an arbitrary guideline limit. Thanks. -- P 1 9 9   15:23, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I made no claims about your need, or lack thereof. I was simply filling out the standard guideline review. Primefac (talk) 15:36, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@P199: can you give a few specific examples of where having template editor would be useful for you? Elli (talk | contribs) 16:40, 5 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Due to the chronic shortage of admins at DYK to perform prep-to-queue moves, the protection levels were recently downgraded to Template editor - really per WT:DYK#Plan of action v2 but you may wish to start at WT:DYK#Giving queues template instead of full protection? for the full context. I would like to help with this. Launchballer 16:06, 8 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Launchballer, I suggest you remove this request for now as the process for making these requests is still under discussion at WT:DYK. Thanks, Gatoclass (talk) 22:57, 8 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think it is appropriate that Launchballer was pressurised to withdraw this request, and so have completed a review anyway. I note that nearly all the edits to template namespace are to subpages of Template:Did you know nominations and are content-related rather than technical in nature. Criteria 5 and 6 are not met - these are designed to assess the need for the template editor user right. In this case there is clear demonstrable need, so I believe we may be able to exercise discretion, even if this is not a scenario that TPE was designed for. As this is potentially controversial, I will not act unilaterally in granting the user right but will wait for comments from other admins patrolling this page — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 08:26, 9 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think the "need for the right" should be demonstrated alternatively for cases like this by edits to the DYK prep templates or edit requests at WP:ERRORS or WP:DYK for the DYK queues. Launchballer has plenty of experience in these areas. —Kusma (talk) 08:29, 9 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know if it helps, but I've struck my withdrawal. If this is successful, I will wait for WT:DYK to say so before actually using it.--Launchballer 08:48, 9 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I feel like WP:INVOLVED prevents me from actioning this request myself, but I will say that having worked with Launchballer for several years at DYK, I trust them not to abuse this privilege. RoySmith (talk) 13:16, 9 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    • Based on my interactions with Launchballer since my return, I concur with RoySmith. I recommend approving this request, as there is a clear understanding of the specific area to be worked, and Launchballer has a good enough head on their shoulders to reach out for help if they are having difficulty.  — Chris Woodrich (talk) 19:01, 9 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
