Could someone please copyedit the Yugoslav Committee article? After the copyedit, I plan to nominate that article as a FAC. Thanks. Tomobe03 (talk) 23:55, 15 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I've made a few basic tidy ups to the first two sections. This seems in general very well written, I'm mostly picking up errors with definite / indefinite articles and the odd slightly non idiomatic usage of English. It is quite long tho, so I'll only edit if I see nobody picking it up. And note, I am a guest, not a member of the guild, just helping to speed up the queue in the interest of getting some help myself! Jim Killock (talk) 21:29, 25 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Tomobe03 Please check what I have done so far for accuracy in case I've misunderstood anything. So far I've made copy edits up to but not including Supilo's resignation. Jim Killock (talk) 19:47, 26 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Jim Killock, I just reviewed the changes Everything appears just fine--Tomobe03 (talk) 20:25, 26 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Tomobe03 OK I've finished my first pass, please check the sections Supilo's resignation to Aftermath. Fascinating bit of history. Good luck with your next steps. Once Tomobe03 has made his checks, it's over to the Guild to give this a further copy edit, but I hope I will have reduced the workload. Jim Killock (talk) 22:57, 26 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Jim Killock, I had a look at the second batch of changes and found no problems with them. (I spotted and removed a duplicate word though.) Thank you very much for taking time and effort to improve prose of this article.--Tomobe03 (talk) 10:34, 27 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I want to prepare this article for a feature article candidacy (FAC). I have done the first round of copyediting myself but there is probably still a lot of room for improvement. Thanks in advance. Phlsph7 (talk) 14:09, 23 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I've looked at some of the copy here, and tbh the copy itself is pretty tightly written. The issues such as they are seem more to do with (a) concepts that are unfamiliar that need some introduction, or (b) concepts that further explanation. However these are not really copy edit issues. I went through some on the talk page and can try to do some more, but this is more a "peer review" style of feedback than a copy edit. I note there is a peer review taking place, since 23 January 2024. I would personally ask @Phlsph7: if this should be paused until the Peer Review is complete, so that the text is stable. As it is pretty tight anyway I think the copyedit will be quite light, except if there are outstanding comprehensibility issues. Jim Killock (talk) 15:01, 8 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Large sections of this are uncited, I'm not sure this is ready for a copy edit (ht @Lindsey40186) Jim Killock (talk) 07:53, 16 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Understood. I'll try to get further on some of the other cleanup it needs before revisiting. Thanks! Lindsey40186 (talk) 16:18, 16 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've marked the uncited and poorly cited sections with templates. Some of those cn tags are over a decade old so that material can be removed per WP:VERIFY. The GOCE is not CLEANUP and is not for cleanup. I'm going to put this request on hold for cleanup for a fortnight or so, after which I'll suggest we decline it if improvements aren't forthcoming. Cheers, Baffle☿gab 16:58, 16 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Only one edit since the 16th, and that was to correct a typo, according to the edit summary. I suggest that this article be declined if it's sourcing is truly problematic (I myself would have tried to address any prose concerns, even if flying blind; but I may be too lenient in that respect). It's a fairly long article (~6700 words), and would take some time to do. Dhtwiki (talk) 05:39, 25 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Agree with you and Baffle that we should decline, since we have more than enough to do as it is. All the best, Miniapolis 13:12, 25 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks both; I've declined because I don't see any signs of cleanup work going on there. @Lindsey40186:, feel free to re-request a full copy-edit once your cleanup work is completed. Cheers, Baffle☿gab 19:41, 25 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I'm currently working on a long overdue citation overhaul, but this thing could use a good deep cleaning too. Eventually I'd like to get it to GA (GAN), but we're a long way from that. Lindsey40186 (talk) 14:01, 12 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

A lot of this does seem to be very lightly cited with sections probably uncited, which may make it a bit unstable for a copy edit @Lindsey40186. Just a thought, would it be better to finish the citation work first and come back with this request? Or if that can be done soon, to put this request on hold for a bit while you do that (given you have waited a long time for a reply etc)? Jim Killock (talk) 14:55, 8 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

()  On hold per JimKillock above; the GOCE is not CLEANUP and is not for cleanup. Discuss at REQ talk. Baffle☿gab 17:12, 16 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

no Declined per discussion at REQ talk. I said I'd wait a fortnight but no improvements have been forthcoming and it's starting to snow here. Discuss at REQ talk (linked above). Baffle☿gab 19:32, 25 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Request for Mamie Van Doren on hold

[edit]

Hi all, I've put the request for the above article on hold here. I've done this because the requester @GreyChen: (courtesy ping) asks for help with article building and text citing, and because that BLP article has major sourcing problems. I've tagged the article and welcomed the requester on their talk page. Cheers, Baffle☿gab 02:06, 29 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, Baffle. I suggest we decline after giving Wcamp9 (formerly GreyChen) time to reply. In addition to poor sourcing for a BLP, there are too many images; a copyedit would be pointless before the poorly-sourced content is removed, and deciding which images belong in the article is above our pay grade. All the best, Miniapolis 13:38, 29 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No worries, this editor seems to be inexperienced so I've left a note on their talk page; they may have disabled pings. I'm happy to let the request sit there for a while (but not too long). Cheers, Baffle☿gab 18:52, 29 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I've declined this request per above. I also note the article is undergoing rapid development by two editors; @Wcamp9:, feel free to relist this article here once it is stable and the lack of references has been fixed. Cheers, Baffle☿gab 03:44, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I would like to note that there is not too many references that can be used for Mamie Van Doren. Therefore, much of the article is built off of her Playing the Field memoir and her own accounts of situations as there is unfortunately no better options. Wcamp9 (talk) 19:29, 15 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Wcamp9:, it's best not to heavily base biographies of living people (BLPs) articles on primary sources. If material in a BLP article cannot be sourced from secondary sources, it's usually best to remove it. Please see Wikipedia's guidance on BLP sourcing. Good luck and cheers, Baffle☿gab 20:43, 15 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I will try to find a secondary source or remove some more biased material that is put in the article. Wcamp9 (talk) 21:09, 15 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
However, I believe I will need some help from additional editors for this article. Wcamp9 (talk) 21:13, 15 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think you should check out the page. I think you especially or someone else can identify whatever issues there are Wcamp9 (talk) 23:07, 15 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for that; I'll have a look but I shalln't be doing major content work there. I notice several of the images used are up for deletion on Commons here; that may help prune the excess of images there. Feel free to discuss the article on the article's talk page; I've left you a few suggestions for improvements there. Cheers, Baffle☿gab 06:08, 16 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

This whole article is full of grammatical errors and bad writing. I tried to fix some of it but it's pretty long so I thought I'd notify you guys. A lot of the wording is very unclear and hard to read, and it's like this in a lot of places. TypoEater (talk) 14:42, 4 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@TypoEater: Quite large sections of this seem to be uncited or poorly cited. It may not take much to fix that but it's probably needed before a copy edit, to ensure that it remains stable? Jim Killock (talk) 07:53, 6 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, this article is kind of a mess in general and I didn't even notice the bad sourcing. I don't have much experience with finding sources for uncited claims, so it might be a good idea to get some more people involved here, seeing as this is turning out to be a bigger and wider issue than I first thought. TypoEater (talk) 19:50, 11 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi all, I've just put the request for the above article on hold because the event is ongoing and the article is under rapid development; see its history. I suggest we decline this request for now. Courtesy pinging the requester @Mehedi Abedin:. Cheers, Baffle☿gab 05:49, 17 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@LittleJerry: Congratulations, as this article was promoted to featured article status as of July 25. However, does it need attention from the guild at this point? I also note that there has been considerable editing activity since then, and we are usually reluctant to undertake copy edits on articles that are in such a state of flux. Request for Kanifing on hold

[edit]

I've put the above request on hold because the requester @Vigilantcosmicpenguin: (courtesy ping) indicates the presence of close paraphrasing, which can often mean copyright violations. I've asked them to either indicate the relevant (sub-)section(s) using a template so the copy-editor knows where the problem text is or, if it's a true copyvio, to remove the problem text and have the revisions deleted. I'm happy for this to stay on hold for a while so this can occur. Cheers, Baffle☿gab 20:34, 16 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the note Baffle☿gab. Nothing needs to be revdelled, the issue was close paraphrasing rather than direct copyvio. As this will be copyedited by a third party, I believe I should be able to approve the DYK following that, so I gone ahead and handled the small amounts of close paraphrasing remaining myself. The copyediting that is desired now is an overall copyedit to help weave the points taken from disparate sources together. Let me know if there is anything else needed. Best, CMD (talk) 02:55, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, Chipmunkdavis, my concerns are addressed and I'll now remove my hold notice. I was concerned a copy-editor wouldn't know if text they would consider acceptable, and thus may not reword in any way, may be the exact text they need to adjust. Cheers, Baffle☿gab 03:52, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

This is my second article on Wikipedia, and I am enjoying the whole process of collective intelligence. Please help me improve it. I've written the above article and believe I am close to completing it with all the necessary records and citations. As someone who collects historic performances to write articles on Wikipedia, I find it challenging to find detailed critiques in Korea. For example, Leonard Bernstein came to Korea only once, and while newspapers reported what he played, they did not mention his conducting style, orchestration, audience response, etc. I was there, but I cannot cite myself. It is difficult to find articles that can be used as citations for Wikipedia. There are plenty of discussions on social media and blogs, but I understand that these are not acceptable sources. I wouldn't mind if some of the unsubstantiated phrases or sentences need to be deleted. Any help with copyediting or finding reliable sources would be greatly appreciated.
