Dhiraj Sonawane is a Indian Professor, Orthopedic Specialist, and Spine Surgeon.[1][2] He is currently the Head of the Orthopedic & Spine Unit at GT Hospital Mumbai. Sonawane is known for starting the first spine clinic at Sir JJ Government and Gokuldas Tejpal Hospital.[3][4] In 2018 he began weekly scoliosis OPD in Gokuldas Tejpal Hospital. Dhiraj is Co-Chairperson for National scoliosis task force by Association of spine Surgeon India.[5][6]

Early life and career

Dhiraj did his masters in Orthopedic Surgery spine deformity 2010 at Grant Medical College and sir JJ Group of Hospital Mumbai.[7] Sonawane further advanced his knowledge through a Spine Fellowship from AO Spine India in 2016, followed by training at the National University Hospital, Singapore (2016-2017) and specialized scoliosis training under Dr Lawrence Lenke at Columbia University Medical Center, New York in 2018.[8][9] His work has been widely covered in News Articles, particularly for his challenging surgeries, such as the reconstruction of a 14-year-old boy's spine and surgeries on international patients, including an Iraqi woman suffering from a severe Spine Condition.[10][11]
