Anti Bougainesse sentiment (Sometimes known as bougainphobia) is the hate or fear towards people living on the island of Bougainville.[citation needed]
Papua New Guinea
[edit]In the last few decades hate towards bougainesse people in Papua New Guinea has increased due to the bougainesse wanting to secede from the country. The Bougainville conflict helped fuel the anti bougainesse sentiment in the country. In 2005 Bougainville was granted autonomy.[1] Following the 2019 Bougainvillean independence referendum the country was guaranteed independence in 2027 by Papua New Guinea. Still many Papuan politicians oppose the independence of Bougainville.[2]
