BecomingX is a UK-based learning and development company, founded in 2018 by former Accenture Sustainability Director Paul Gurney and television presenter and adventurer Bear Grylls. The company’s mission is to 'create a world where everyone can realise their potential.'[1]

Products and services

[edit]

BecomingX focuses on four areas:

  1. Corporate learning: learning and development, corporate events and storytelling to help employees build the character, skills, and confidence needed to succeed.[2]
  2. Education: BecomingX Education, a digital platform to help educators 'teach personal development and life skills'[3] and international expeditions.
  3. Films: Interviews with prominent individuals and high performers to provide insights on what it takes to succeed.
  4. Social impact: Projects and solutions to support disadvantaged groups[4].

Contributors

[edit]

BecomingX is known for its collaboration with some of the 'world’s most iconic and inspiring individuals'[5]. These contributors share their personal stories in BecomingX’s films, which aim to 'demystify what it really takes to succeed.'[6] Interviewees include Presidents, Nobel Peace Prize laureates, Olympic gold medallists, Oscar winners, astronauts, CEOs, scientists, military leaders and humanitarians[7]. In addition to high-profile figures, BecomingX also features interviews with individuals who have overcome significant personal challenges to achieve success in their respective fields. These stories form part of the company’s broader research program into human achievement and potential.

Social impact

[edit]

BecomingX is a certified B Corporation, a company ‘certified to meet the highest standards of social and environmental performance’. As of May 2024, it held the highest B Corp score in the UK[8], with a score of 179.8[9], and has the third highest globally.

In 2021, BecomingX established the BecomingX Foundation[10], a charitable organisation aimed at delivering the company’s mission in low-income countries and disadvantaged communities. A notable pilot project launched in 2022 in Embu, Kenya, supported 50 young people in partnership with the UK-Kenya charity Moving Mountains[11].

In 2023, BecomingX Foundation and BecomingX partnered with Accenture and Amazon[12] to launch BecomingX Ukraine, an educational platform designed to help Ukrainian adults build digital skills and secure employment[13]. The platform also supports school students in developing key life skills. High-profile contributors to the project include Ukrainian footballer Andriy Shevchenko, tennis player Elina Svitolina, TV presenter Masha Efrosinina, and former world heavyweight boxing champion Wladimir Klitschko. BecomingX Ukraine was launched in Kyiv in May 2024 and received significant attention in the Ukrainian media[14] [15] [16].

In the same year, BecomingX began developing Beacon, an app designed to assist refugees in integrating into their host countries. The app is being developed with the support of several leading global corporations[17].

Since 2023, BecomingX has worked with KPMG to provide the BecomingX Education platform to all schools in Guernsey and the Cayman Islands[18].
