The Benrus Orbit Robot is a reissued skindiver model from 1972. [1] The original piece is rare and hard to find on the market, however the new model maintains the same look and design, with modern improvements.
The watch has an updated look and materials, switching to an improved, sapphire crystal. [1]
The watch is made of stainless steel, with bright orange and white hands and metal squares in place of numbers on the watch. The Orbit Robot is made with a bi-directional, stainless bezel that glows green, “while the hands and dial use BWG9 blue lume”. It is complete with a screw-down crown with precise edges. The watch has easily swappable straps. with a lug width of 20mm, thanks to its “chamfers on the two-button deployant clasp”, and quick-release spring bars. [1]
Although the modern models are Swiss made, employing a Swiss time keeping caliber, it originally ran with Seiko movements. It has many new benefits that the old version lacked, such as hand-winding and crown operated date change. [1]
On the bottom of the case back is an engraving “WR 20 ATM” and of a planet with a robot in its orbit.
The watch is a “classic ‘UFO’ cushion case style”, and is made of a 43mm case diameter, which is “brushed 316L SS case w/ screw-down crown”. It has a height of 13mm, a “Stainless Steel Friction Fit Bezel with Lumed 12 o’clock Triangle”. The Orbit Robot takes its movement from the Soprod P024 with quick set date function and 38-hour power reserve. The watch is water resistant to pressures equivalent to a depth of 200 meters (20 ATM). There is also a gradient light to dark gray fumé dial, like the original model. The Benrus Orbit Robot Skindiver is an example of a reintroduced design with “improved performance with modern day materials”. The purchase of a watch comes with a package of Custom Waterproof Clamshell Travel Watch case.[2]
