Eric Hovde (born in 1964) born in Madison, Wisconsin is an American politician and a businessman who is currently running as the Republican nominee for Wisconsin Senate against the Democratic nominee Tammy Baldwin[1]

Early life

Eric Hovde was born in Madison, Wisconsin and he attended East High School and the University of Wisconsin-Madison.[2]

Adult Life

Eric Hovde has a wife named Sharon with 2 daughters and 3 grandchildren, and he was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis at the age of 27, and he wants to fight and to find a cure against the disease. And he also built a company called the Hovde Foundation with his brother Steve. And it's purpose is to provide shelter to homeless children in Wisconsin.[3]

During 2012 Hovde attempted to run for the 2012 Wisconsin Senate election, but ultimately failed.[4]

During 2024 he ran for the 2024 United States Senate election in Wisconsin, and he successfully won the primaries for the Republican nominee, and ended up as the frontrunner. He was endorsed by Trump during his Wisconsin rally.[5] He also spoke at the RNC during 2024.[6]

Foreign policy

Eric Hovde dislikes the withdrawal from Afghanistan and wished it was done better, and said that America deserted hundreds of American citizens and left thousands of allies, left behind 7 billion dollars. He also says on his campaign website that the Russian invasion of Ukraine has stretched on for too long, and costed hundreds of billions dollars. He also says that Iran is financing terrorism and says that Iran funded the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7th. He also says on his campaign websites that the wars need to end, and wants to prevent future wars.[7]

Immigration

Eric Hovde says that he wants to close the Mexico–United States border, and he believes that it will provide greater security. He also supports legal immigration because he feels like that legal immigrants are good people that want to work in the farms, work in factories, and also work on the health care system.[8]

Abortion

Eric Hovde switched on the abortion, he used to say that he was in favor of overturning Roe v. Wade, and he was totally opposed to abortion. But in 2024 Eric Hovde switched his stances on abortion. He says that women early in their pregnancies should have a right to make a choice.[9]
