The Hartig family (Czech: Hartigové) is the name of a Catholic, Bohemian, and today Austrian noble family of Silesian origin, whose direct lineage begins with **Martin Hartig** (*born around 1500 in Eichmannsdorf; † before 1554), a merchant in **Löwenberg (Duchy of Schweidnitz-Jauer)**. His son **Jakob Hartig** (1534–1607), a citizen of **Zittau (Saxony)** since 1561, was a merchant and councilman there, as well as an elder of the church. Martin's grandson **Johannes Hartig** (1573–1632), personal physician to Prince **Anhalt-Zerbst** and **Legnica-Brzeg** at the princely court, was ennobled and received a coat of arms from Emperor **Rudolf II**. Since 1668, the family possessed extensive estates in **Grafschaft Glatz**, which they held until 1742 or 1763.
Ennoblement
[edit]The family was raised to nobility several times. In 1694, they received the title of **Freiherr** (Baron). On 24 December 1719, they were elevated to **Reichsgraf** (Count of the Holy Roman Empire).
