Héctor Duarte (born 1952)[1] is a Mexican-born American muralist and multimedia artist. In 1985, he moved from Mexico to Chicago, Illinois.[2] His artwork focuses on many themes related to the Latino experience and immigration, however he is particularly interested the formal study of mural painting.[1]
Visual themes of his work include community, gentrification, flowers, and butterflies.[3][4] Duarte's paintings were the focus of the first “Day of the Dead” in 1986. In 1987, his work was exhibited in the Pilsen neighborhood, and throughout Chicago in the “Barrio Murals” exhibition.[5]
