The Higher Normal School of Technical Education (ENSET) is a Grande école in Cameroon, affiliated with the University of Douala, and located in Douala.
Missions
[edit]The primary mission of this institution includes:
- Training of Teachers for Technical Education Colleges (PCET)
- Training of Teachers for Technical Education High Schools (PLET)
- Training of senior corporate executives
- Conducting fundamental and applied research in various fields
- Designing and manufacturing industrial products
- Providing expertise to national administrations, international organizations, and both national and international companies
Organization and Operations
[edit]With the integration of this Grande école into the LMD (Licence-Master-Doctorate) system, students of ENSET Douala are now referred to as "engineering educators" or "corporate executives" because they receive training in both engineering and psycho-pedagogy.
Graduates are recruited by the Ministry of Secondary Education as teachers in technical high schools and colleges, and many also find positions in major companies both in Cameroon and internationally.
The institution benefits from:
- Collaborations and associations with foreign universities and schools (e.g., Polytechnique de Montréal)
- Research contracts funded by national companies and international organizations
Admission
[edit]Level I (1st Year)
[edit]Admission is through a written competitive exam, open to candidates with a Baccalauréat in series C, E, F, G, or the General Certificate of Education Advanced Level (GCEAL) in S1, S2, S3, S4 or A1, A2, A3, A4. Successful candidates also undergo oral examinations.
Level III (3rd Year)
[edit]Admission is based on qualifications and is open to candidates holding a BTS, DUT, or a Licence.
Level IV (4th Year)
[edit]Admission is based on the evaluation of the application and an interview, open to candidates holding a Maîtrise, an engineering diploma, or any other equivalent diploma. For candidates holding a DIPET I, a minimum of 3 years of teaching experience in high school or college is required.
Note
[edit]Candidates must be under 32 years old, except for those holding a DIPET I for at least 3 years.
Academic Structure
[edit]There are five levels of study within two cycles of education. Each level includes modules divided into units of value (UV), each of which must be validated.
There are five main tracks, managed by departmental options:
- Industrial Computing
- Civil Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Administrative Techniques
- Economic and Management Techniques
Teaching and research activities are developed within the departments:

- Department of Administrative Techniques and Economic Sciences

- Department of Mechanical Engineering
- Department of Electrical Engineering
- Department of Civil Engineering
- Department of Basic Scientific Education
- Department of Forestry Engineering
- Department of Textile Industry and Apparel
- Department of Chemical Engineering
Students undertake multiple internships in companies across the country and in technical colleges and high schools. Each student presents a final year thesis based on nearly a year of research.

- Technological and Research Master - BAC + 5
Programs
[edit]Courses are offered in 35-hour weekly schedules.
Note: ExcelAfrica http://www.excelafrica.com In 2004, ENSET introduced three new programs: social economy and family management, textile industry and apparel, and woodworking. In 2007, a program in computer engineering was added.
