Draft:Jane Gargano

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A former Wolcott teacher and PTO treasurer was arrested Monday for allegedly stealing from school PTO accounts.

Police say during the investigation, which led back to 2012 when 54-year-old Jane Gargano started as treasurer, police issued search warrants for bank accounts that were controlled by her. Police then discovered that over $88,000 was fraudulently obtained by Gargano from three different Alcott School PTO bank accounts for her own personal use.Related: Wolcott teacher resigns amid alleged theft investigation

Police say this was done through PTO checks and PTO ATM transactions. There were also other missing funds from fundraisers and charities that had been PTO sponsored.

Additionally, the investigation proved that there were six counts of forgery.

On Monday, Gargano turned herself into police after learning there was a warrant for her arrest. She was charged with larceny and forgery. Gargano was released on a $20,000 bond and will appear in court on September 26th.

Gargano had already resigned as a teacher from Alcott School in May when the investigation was taking place.
