Jorge Novominsky (Born 8 March 1966) is an Argentinian/Israeli Documentary, press, and public relations photographer, wins several awards in Israel and abroad.
Biography
[edit]Jorge Novominsky was born in Posadas, the capital of Misiones Province in Argentina, and immigrated to Israel in November 1995. He works as a freelance photographer for various media outlets both in Israel and internationally (including AFP, Yediot Aharonot, Ma'ariv, BBC) and for numerous public and private sector clients (Yad Vashem, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Israel Nature and Parks Authority, KKL-JNF, among others). He also works as a freelance video photographer for AFP. Over the years, he has participated in both solo and group exhibitions, winning awards in photography competitions in Israel and worldwide. A series he shot on a Torah Scribe was published by BBC and is displayed at the Bible Museum in Washington, D.C. In 2016, he published his personal photography book, *Eppur si mouve – Seven Inevitable Photographic Stories*, which was accompanied by solo exhibitions at the Modiin Cultural Hall and the Jerusalem Theater. He also participated in "The Lonka Project" a photographic tribute to the last Holocaust survivors around the world.
Eppur si mouve – Seven Inevitable Photographic Stories
[edit]Published in 2016, this book consists of seven documentary stories told through still photography. The common thread is that Novominsky did not set out to capture these stories but encountered them by chance and felt compelled to photograph them obsessively.
1. Tango: Eight years documenting the tango culture from Argentina to Uzbekistan, capturing the unique aesthetics of the tango, from pristine ballrooms to the streets.
2. Gil: The tragic story of a close friend who was misdiagnosed with a psychological condition when he complained of tongue pain. Two months later, a malignant tumor was discovered. The story chronicles nine years, from the diagnosis until his last day.
3. Jump: During an assignment at a trampoline competition, Novominsky was inspired by the dissonant sounds of Schoenberg's dodecaphonic music, which clashed with Bach's harmony, compelling him to capture the athletes' complex jumps in black and white.
4. Breakdance: Black-and-white photographs capturing the emotions in a national breakdancing competition, showcasing street art in a new light.
5. Bedouins in Unrecognized Villages: A decade of imagery from unrecognized Bedouin villages in the Negev, documenting their daily lives and community struggles against Israeli authorities.
6. Tent Village: A shadowy documentation of a police operation arresting illegal Palestinian workers sleeping in a tent city near construction sites in Modiin, some of whom had worked on the building where Novominsky resides today.
7. Terra Santa: A series of images taken over the years in various situations, creating a collection of images that either could only happen in Israel or happen too often, seen through the eyes of an observer who views Israel as the "Holy Land."

- 2010 - Gold Medal at the 5th International Photography Biennale in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, "Tashkentale 2010"
- 2011 - First prize in the "Sports" category at the "Local Testimony" competition[1]
