Kyro Ponte (Greek: Κύρο Πόντε; born 1972) is the pen name of the Greek author Kyriakos Sidiropoulos (Κυριάκος Σιδηρόπουλος).
Life and Career
[edit]Kyro Ponte (pseudonym of Kyriakos Sidiropoulos, Esslingen, 1972) is a Greek neuroscientist, author and translator. He was born in Esslingen, West Germany, but spent his school years in Ilioupolis, Thessaloniki[1]. From an early age he was involved in poetry and writing and was honoured in a student literature competition by the Society of Writers of Thessaloniki. He later left Thessaloniki and studied Biology, Linguistics and Philosophy at the University of Freiburg. During this period, he travels to many European cities and reaches as far as the Far East. He studied Japanese culture, literature, history and religion and translated several literary works by Oe Kenzaburo and Jun'ichiro Tanizaki into Greek. He is pursuing a PhD in Neuroscience at the Graduate School of Neural and Behavioural Sciences in Tübingen[2]. His research is concerned with language dysfunctions (aphasia) and memory, topics that also permeate his literary work[3]. His scientific work has been published in prominent international journals. He first appeared in literature with his short story series The Apple Fell from Venus' Left Hand (Groβenwahnverlag, 2015, German). This is followed by the poetry collection Poetry of Memory and Love (BoD 2018, Greek) and the novel A Curious Stranger (Govostis, 2019, Greek). He also translates, among others, Το τελευταίο αντίο (engl. The final farewell) by Vassilis Vassilikos (edition buntehunde 2009) and The Tattoo by Junichiro Tanizaki (Bibliothèque 2017) [3]. In 2007 he founded the online literary portal Inlitera, from which the anthology Netzwerke emerged, as well as a series of interviews with writers such as Yoko Tawada, Vassilis Vassilikos, Petros Markaris, Herbert Rosendorfer.
