Patrícia Silveirinha Castello Branco is a Portuguese researcher and academic, currently serving as the coordinator of the CineLab at IFILNOVA, the NOVA Institute of Philosophy, Lisbon. She specializes in film studies, philosophy, the sensory perception of visual media, and Portuguese cinema, with a particular focus on haptic visuality, the interaction between technology and the body, and posthumanist thought

Education

'Patrícia Silveirinha Castello Branco earned her Ph.D. in 2009, focusing on haptic visuality in technological images. Her doctoral thesis, which explored how technology shapes the sensory perception of images, was awarded publication by Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian'.

Research

Patrícia’s research focuses on embodied perception, examining how films and other visual media engage viewers through haptic visuality, a concept that refers to touch-like sensory interactions with visual images. Her studies intersect philosophy, art, technology, and Portuguese cinema, with contributions to the fields of posthumanism, ecological cinema, and philosophy of the sublime.

She is also the co-editor and co-founder of Cinema: Journal of Philosophy and the Moving Image, an academic journal that fosters interdisciplinary dialogue between philosophy and cinema.
