Poom Kumam is a Thai mathematician recognized for his research in fixed-point theory and optimization algorithms, which have applications in multidisciplinary areas. He is one of the founders of multidisciplinary fixed-point iteration for computational science, which is also applied to image processing.[1]

Early life and education
[edit]Poom Kumam, born in 1978 and raised in Thailand, pursued his education in mathematics and obtained his BS degree in 2000 from Burapha University (BU), followed by an M.Sc. degree in 2002 from Chiang Mai University (CMU), and finally a Ph.D. degree in 2007 from Naresuan University (NU). These prestigious universities are all located in Thailand. Additionally, Poom Kumam successfully completed the Certificate Training Program: Newton Fund Professional Development Programme for Mid-Career Researchers offered by the British Council UK in 2015. In 2008, he was granted a short-term visit to the Laboratoire de Mathematiques, Universite de Bretagne Occidentale, France, as part of the Franco-Thai Cooperation. Additionally, he conducted short-term research as a Visiting Professor with Professor Anthony To-Ming Lau at the University of Alberta, AB, Canada[1].
Career
[edit]Dr. Poom KUMAM (Senior IEEE) is a full Professor in mathematics (at age 37 No.13 in Thailand) the Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Science, King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi [2](KMUTT), Thailand since 2015. He is the head of the Center of Excellence in Theoretical and Computational (TaCS-CoE) [3]and KMUTT Fixed Point Theory and Applications Research Group [4](KMUTT-FPTARG). Head of CaRe NETWORK Global Research Network Center [5]under Global Leader Project of PMU-B since 2023.
His research targeted fixed-point theory, variational analysis, random operator theory, optimization theory, and approximation theory. Also, Fractional differential equations, Differential game, Entropy and Quantum operators, Fuzzy softset, Mathematical modelling for fluid dynamics and areas of interest Inverse problems, Dynamic games in economics, Image restoration, Signal and image processing, Game Theory and Cryptology. He has provided and developed many mathematical tools in his fields productively over the past years. Dr. Poom has over 1,000 scientific papers (updated June. 2022)[6] and projects either presented or published. He supervises a team of 15 senior researchers (15 Postdoctoral)[4] and 63 PhD students (March 2024).[7]
He has been Thomson Reuters Highly Cited Researcher (HCR) since 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2022 (published multiple highly cited papers, ranking in the top 1% by citations for field and year over the last decade. Of all the world’s researchers, they are one in 1,000). He has also been listed and ranked in the 25th Place in General Mathematics among the Top 2% Scientists in the World 2020-2022 (Published by Stanford University in USA). In 2021, he was one of the leading professors of applied mathematics in Thailand who work at KMUTT, has been ranked as the Mathematics Best Scientist in Thailand (Number 1 Mathematician in Thailand) according to the 2021 Alper-Doger Scientific Index (also known as AD Scientific Index).
Furthermore, the AD Scientific Index also ranked him as the Natural Science Best Scientist in King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi and number six in Thailand. He has also been listed and ranked in the 241th Place in General Mathematics among the Top 2% Scientists in the World 2020 (Published by Stanford University in USA). His locations in the list of the Stanford University Names World’s Top 2% Scientists Out of a total of 17,766 mathematical scientists, he has been ranked at 138 (Applied Mathematics) and at 197 (General Mathematics) published on 20 October 2021.[8]
Moreover, he has addressed many International Editorial Board for more than 50 journals and also delivers many invited talks on different international conferences every year all around the world.
Research contributions
[edit]Poom Kumam is a highly accomplished researcher with a wide range of interests. His areas of expertise include fixed point theory, variational analysis, optimization theory, approximation theory, fractional differential equations, differential game, fuzzy soft set, mathematical modelling for fluid dynamics and inverse problems, dynamic games in economics, traffic network equilibria, bandwidth allocation problem, wireless sensor networks, image restoration, signal processing and image processing, game theory, and cryptology. In addition to his research, Poom Kumam is also actively involved in Computational Science and Simulation and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). He has made significant contributions to his fields, developing numerous mathematical tools over the years. With over 1,300 scientific articles and projects to his name, Professor Kumam is a highly respected figure in the academic community. He is also a valued editorial board member for more than 50 journals and is frequently invited to deliver talks at international conferences worldwide. He also published several books. He is an Editor-in-Chief/ Managing Editors/ Editorial Board Member/ Guest Editors/Associate Editors/of different national/ and international journals[9], and Invited Speaker/ Keynote Speaker/ Keynote Speaker of several local/ international conferences/seminars/workshops/meetings.
Personal life
[edit]Poom, a proud Thai native, hails from the picturesque town of Chantaburi, Thailand. He is happily married to the esteemed Wiyada Kumam, an Associate Professor in Applied Statistics at Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi (RMUTT). Together, they have been blessed with a remarkable daughter who possesses both beauty and talent. Poom's passion for mathematics knows no bounds, and he finds great joy in exploring new destinations, playing football, indulging in refreshing swims, and cherishing moments spent with loved ones.
