Rapid launch small satellites are Japanese artificial satellites . It constitutes an alternative system to the information-gathering satellites that are being tested by the Cabinet Satellite Information Center .
Overview
[edit]The satellite itself is an optical reconnaissance satellite with a weight of less than 100kg and a resolution of less than 1m . It was developed to carry out demonstration research on small satellites that can be launched in a short period of time to replace the functions of information gathering satellites for a certain period of time in the event of an unexpected situation . The aim is to complete manufacturing and testing within a short period of time (targeting around 2 to 3 months) when it is put into practical use.
The satellite system is developed by AES [Note 1] , and the ground system is developed by SKY Perfect JSAT , with Space One conducting the launch and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency providing research support.
Operation
[edit]On March 9, 2024 , the launch of the first Kairos rocket proceeded, but it was postponed due to troubles intruding into restricted sea areas.
On March 13 of the same year, it was launched by Kairos Rocket No. 1, but the command was destroyed a few seconds later and it was lost before it could enter orbit along with the rocket.
