Tales of Uplift and Moral Improvement is a Channel X comedy series produced for the BBC and broadcast in 2001 on BBC Choice.[1][2] The series starred Rik Mayall as Ffine Carmody,[3] and also featured Felicity Wren,[4] Lucinda Raikes and Thomas Wansey. It was written and created by Alex Kirk[5] and Simon Messingham (who both also acted in various roles),[6][7][8] and directed by Bob Baldwin (who also directed Grim Tales, also starring Mayall).[9] The show's music was written by Julian Maurice Moore.[10] One series consisting of thirteen quarter-hour episodes was produced.[11]

Summary

Ffine Carmody narrates a series of stories of 'Uplift and Moral Improvement' set in Edwardian England, with "barely suppressed fascism". In each episode, a grim story of an errant childhood is recounted.[12]
