Idowu Adeyemi (born April 4, 1993), popularly known by his stage name Yhemolee, is a Nigerian singer, actor, event host, and social media personality.[1] He gained widespread recognition through his roles in the entertainment industry, He often worked with Asake and collaborated with artists like Chinko Ekun.[2]

He also appeared in the production Gang of Lagos, portraying the character Muri Toronto.

Early Life and education

Idowu Adeyemi was born and raised in Nigeria. He pursued his higher education at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) in Ile-Ife, Osun State, Nigeria. During his time at the university,[3] he was actively involved in various entertainment activities, which helped him develop his passion for music and performance.[4] Due to his father's work and his parents' eventual divorce, he took on the responsibility of caring for his sister while growing up.[5]

Career

Yhemolee initially started as a musician, releasing several songs. His music, which blends elements of Afrobeats with modern sounds, quickly garnered a following, especially among young listeners. Idowu gained further exposure following his collaboration with Chinko Ekun and Asake on the 2020 single "Mon Cheri ".[6][7] He was nominated in the 2020 edition of the City People Entertainment Awards organized by City People Magazine.[8] Yhemolee has also been credited with introducing Nigerian singer Asake to rapper Olamide.[9] This introduction played a pivotal role in launching Asake's successful career in the Nigerian music industry, with Olamide later signing him to his YBNL record label, helping Asake rise to stardom.[10]

Yhemolee's acting career also took off with roles in Nollywood films. His performances have been praised for his versatility, he has been featured in several Nollywood films including Traffic (2020), Reach (2020), Hotel Labamba (2023),[11] and IjeBaby Chopping Center (2022).[12] Idowu gained widespread recognition for his portrayal of Muri Toronto, in Gang of Lagos.[13]

Social media influence and controversies

Yhemolee is highly active on social media platforms, where he shares content ranging from humorous skits to music-related posts. His engaging content has amassed a large following, making him one of the prominent figures in Nigeria's social media landscape.[14] Yhemolee allegedly collided with Nigerian singer Sani Wasiu, aka Lil Frosh[15] On 27th November 2023, he was accused of assault by the singer in a series of statements on Lil Frosh's social media.[16][17] The posts featured pictures. On 28 November 2023, Yhemolee filed a N200 million naira defamation suit against singer Lil Frosh. [18][19]

Personal life

On September 6, 2024, Yhemolee married his long-term partner, Oyin Tayo (Thayour B), in Victoria Island, Lagos.[20][21][22] The event was attended by guests including Timi Dakolo, Rahaman Jago (Tiamiu Kayode), Poco Lee ( Pascal Odinaka), and White Lion (Soso Soberekon).[23][24]
