The Grand Prix of Arlington will be an IndyCar Series race coming in 2026.
History
[edit]The first Indy car events in the Dallas/Fort Worth area were held at Arlington Downs from 1947 through 1950 under AAA sanction.[1]
From 1997 through 2023, Speedway Motorsports-owned Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth hosted events under IndyCar sanction. Additionally, Championship Auto Racing Teams (CART) attempted to host their own event at TMS in 2001 which was cancelled after qualifying due to excessive vertical g-loads.
The Grand Prix of Arlington was announced on October 7, 2024, confirming initial reports the month previous.[2] The circuit will feature AT&T Stadium and Globe Life Field, home of the Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Rangers, respectively, and the event has been billed as a partnership between IndyCar, the Cowboys and Rangers, and the City of Arlington.[3]
Circuit Design
[edit]The Arlington Street Circuit was designed by Tony Cottman, who has designed several Champ Car and IndyCar street circuits. The circuit is 2.73 miles long and features fourteen corners. The length of the circuit makes it not only longer than any other IndyCar street circuit, it is longer than any permanent road course that IndyCar visits other than the 4.04 mile Road America circuit. It's 0.9 mile main straightaway is the longest IndyCar will see on a street or road course. The number of corners on the track ties St. Petersburg for the most on an IndyCar street circuit. The circuit also features a split pit lane similar to the one found on the current Detroit Street Circuit. Cottman expects Turns 1, 10, 12, 14 to be the most enticing passing zones on the circuit.
