Anthony Lambert, known as Jarry, is a French comedian, actor, director, TV host, and columnist, born on August 5, 1977, in Angers, Maine-et-Loire.

Childhood and Early Artistic Steps

[edit]

Anthony Lambert[1], born prematurely following a car accident, comes from a working-class family — his mother's side were winemakers and his father's side were foundry workers.[2] He grew up in Rablay-sur-Layon, a village near Angers, and has three brothers.

He took his first artistic steps with the hip-hop dance company Exprime at the National Center for Contemporary Dance.[3]

Career

[edit]
Theater Beginnings

Jarry’s stage name, which he adopted while doing theater in high school, is not a tribute to playwright and novelist Alfred Jarry, but rather his mother's maiden name.[4]

Television and Radio Activities

From November 2019 to 2022, Jarry was a jury member on the French version of Mask Singer on TF1, hosted by Camille Combal, alongside Alessandra Sublet, Kev Adams, and Anggun.[5]

In 2020, he participated in Tous en cuisine, en direct avec Cyril Lignac on M6, and appeared in the music video Et demain? by the Collectif Et demain?, supporting the Paris Hospitals-France Hospitals Foundation. During the lockdown, Jarry took part in the show Qui veut gagner des millions à la maison?, hosted by Camille Combal, where he won 12,000 euros. From July 17, 2020, to August 2022, he hosted Good Singers in primetime on TF1.[6]

On July 11, 2023, France Télévisions announced that Jarry would take over hosting the lunchtime game show Tout le monde veut prendre sa place on France 2, replacing Laurence Boccolini, who had succeeded the show's original host, Nagui.[7][8]

On April 4, 2024, he announced that he would stop hosting the show Tout le monde veut prendre sa place to focus on his stage performances.[9]

Personal Life

[edit]

Regarding his personal life and sexual orientation, Jarry stated that he identified as heterosexual until the age of 24, when he came out as gay.[10] He now fully embraces his homosexuality.[11][12] He keeps his partner's identity private. In June 2016, he became the father of twins via surrogacy in the United States, but he has chosen not to reveal any photos of them.[13]
