Kyohei Hagiwara (Japanese: 萩原京平, Born December 28, 1995) is a Japanese male professional mixed martial artist. Born in Toyonaka City, Osaka Prefecture.

Early life

[edit]

During his middle school years, he was passionate about rugby. Around the age of 17, he became inspired by professional fighters and entered amateur competitions, achieving an impressive record of 18 wins out of 20 matches. After transitioning to a professional career, he competed primarily in events around his hometown of Osaka, steadily gaining experience.[2]

On March 26, 2017, he made his mixed martial arts (MMA) debut at DEEP SAITAMA IMPACT 2017, where he faced Masato Arai. He lost the match in the second round via an armbar submission.

On February 23, 2020, at GLADIATOR 012×1MC in OSAKA, he fought Ryoma Asai and won by KO in the second round with ground-and-pound strikes.

RIZIN

[edit]

On August 10, 2020, he made his first appearance in RIZIN at *RIZIN.22 - STARTING OVER*, where he faced Rikuto Shirakawa. He secured a TKO victory in the third round after a flurry of standing punches.[3]

On September 27, 2020, at *RIZIN.24*, he fought former DEEP Featherweight Champion Takahiro Ashida and lost via an armbar submission in the first round.[4]

On November 21, 2020, at *RIZIN.25*, he faced Yojiro Uchimura, winning by knockout in just 22 seconds of the first round with a right straight punch.[5]

On December 31, 2020, at *RIZIN.26*, he fought Ren Hiramoto, a bout that generated buzz due to their verbal exchanges before the fight. During the match, he dominated on the ground, causing significant damage, including fracturing Hiramoto's skull with a knee strike. The fight ended in the second round when Hiramoto's corner threw in the towel after a ground-and-pound, resulting in a TKO victory.[6][7]

On October 2, 2021, at *RIZIN LANDMARK vol.1*, he faced Mikuru Asakura. He spent most of the fight on his back and lost via unanimous decision (0-3). The event also drew attention when the streaming platform U-NEXT experienced a major server crash due to high traffic, delaying the event by an hour.[8]

On November 28, 2021, at *RIZIN TRIGGER 1st*, he fought former PANCRASE Lightweight Champion Shoji and won by TKO in the second round after knocking him down with punches and finishing with a soccer kick.[9]

On December 31, 2021, at *RIZIN.33*, he faced former Shootboxing Super Lightweight Champion Hiroaki Suzuki, controlling both the stand-up and ground phases to secure a unanimous decision victory (3-0).[10]

On March 20, 2022, at *RIZIN.34*, he fought former DEEP Featherweight Champion Satoshi "Dominator" Yamasu. Despite landing a spinning back kick that knocked Yamasu down, he lost in the first round via a triangle armbar submission.[11]

On May 5, 2022, at *RIZIN LANDMARK vol.3*, he faced former KSW and REBEL FC Featherweight Champion Kleber Koike. He caused Koike to bleed with punches and a flying knee, but was taken down and submitted in the first round with a rear-naked choke.

On September 25, 2022, at *RIZIN.38*, he faced Chihiro Suzuki and lost via rear-naked choke in the second round.

On April 1, 2023, at *RIZIN.41*, he fought former PXC Bantamweight Champion Kyle Aguon. Despite being repeatedly taken down and having his back taken, he survived and eventually knocked Aguon down, earning a unanimous decision victory (3-0), marking his first win in 16 months.

On September 24, 2023, at *RIZIN.44*, he faced former RIZIN Featherweight Champion Juntaro Ushiku. Despite a back-and-forth battle, he was controlled in the third round and lost via unanimous decision.

On March 23, 2024, at *RIZIN LANDMARK 9*, he fought former DEEP Lightweight Champion Koji Takeda and lost by unanimous decision (0-3). Following this match, he announced his intention to drop down to the bantamweight division (-61kg), as he had not been cutting as much weight as other fighters in the featherweight division.

On September 29, 2024, he is scheduled to fight Ryo Takagi, the top-ranked PANCRASE featherweight, at *RIZIN.48*. Although he had announced his move to bantamweight, he mentioned that he still had unfinished business at featherweight, suggesting he may continue fighting in the division.
