List of Topics with list of subtopics

[edit]

Tannermp (talk) AnneZ Sharkers

Here are a few general categories I think should be added to Topics section. Feel free to add or change anything if you don't agree with any of my selections (I am also adding these to the Topic section of the Portal page, and they will need some subtopics as well as they are very broad) I also have started elaborating some of the subtopics in the Design category Tannermp (talk) 19:51, 10 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Usability (Usability testing, Cognitive walkthrough, heuristic evaluation, affordance, usability insepction, usability engineering)
  • Design (User Experience Design, Value Sensitive Design, Database design, Flat UI design, Interaction design, participatory design, user-centered design)
  • User Experience (Accessibility, Collaboratory, First-Time user experience, Interactivity)
  • Technology (Artificial Intelligence, Brain-Computer interface, Collaborative software, Graphical user interface, Prototype)
  • Psychology (Ecological psychology, social affordance, transparency, social translucence, persuasive technology)
  • Theory and Concepts (Activity theory, Actor network theory, card sorting, Fitt's law, Data visualization, Gender HCI)
  • People
  • I changed the "Other" category to People as well as expanded the current sub topics on many of the other categories (I am not sure if the changes are showing up however, but they are able to be seen when you edit the Topics section. Feel free to make changes, as I am not entirely convinced that everything I added belongs in the correct category. Tannermp (talk) 23:30, 16 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • I was trying to encompass the whole list of topics within the box and could not figure out how to do so. Is this the same thing you are talking about? I tried seeing if anything was off on the template as well and was unable to find anything.Sharkers (talk) 23:15, 19 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Design/Layout

(Pgrobison (talk)) (Candice Juan (talk))

I added some information to the Read page and make it looks purple... Somehow I cannot contact Pgrobison...So shall we discuss here?Candice Juan (talk) 04:08, 7 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • I used the box skeleton template to reformat the portal. It now has many red links. These links are to pages that need to be created, and within them we can link to our selected article, biography, etc. This is where you guys can add the content articles you find into the portal. Pgrobison (talk) 22:28, 7 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • A quick note, I do not think we need a categories section if we already have a Topics section (I feel like having both is somewhat redundant. Anyone else agree?) Tannermp (talk) 20:17, 10 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I spent a long time figuring out how to do editing in each section. For example, I did something in the section of biography. But I'm sure I did something wrong and I really don't know how to make it right. Please help!! Thanks!!Weariness (talk) 09:05, 14 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • The selected article section is sort of long, and is making the portal page harder to navigate, is there anyway we could make it shorter so it doesn't take up half the page? Tannermp (talk) 23:32, 16 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

We are going to go out and find selected biographies, photos, articles, and quotes, and then determine which we want to use for the portal. Marge6914 (talk) 00:42, 6 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • I think this person fits our portal, but there is not much information about how he relates to the UX design that I think is very important to be talked about. How about Jef_Raskin or Alan_Cooper? It seems there are lots of information about their specific user experience.Weariness (talk) 18:36, 8 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Yeah, it's great!! How about this one “Don't make me think” by Steve Krug?? I like simple quote because I think it's attractive to most of people who doesn't know much about HCI.Weariness (talk) 18:45, 8 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Yeah... I still don't like that as a quote, since it's his book title. If you want to use one of the other quotes on that page, I might be OK with that. How about this one? “Get rid of half the words on each page, then get rid of half of what’s left.” Marge6914 (talk) 18:38, 10 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I added the small blurb that was originally the only content in the portal as part of a working introduction for now Pgrobison (talk) 22:41, 7 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • But do we really want to include an article that has been flagged as inappropriate and might someday be removed? I think we can pick a better article than that categorization. Additionally, we're putting a lot of that information on our categories section of this portal. How about Interaction_design? Marge6914 (talk) 02:37, 9 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Yes, we do want to use an appropriate article, that's my point. The article Outline_of_human–computer_interaction is set up as an article but on its Talk page they argue that it's inappropriate to set it up as an article because it's actually a categorization, and there's already a Wikipedia Categorization guideline that this article goes against. So, in the future it might be integrated into the categorization and this article will be removed. Since it's not a "proper" article, my concern is that we will use it and someday it might go away. I know that Interaction_design will not go away, if anything it will expand and become better. And, it's totally related to HCI. That's why I think we should use that one, or a different one, but not the outline one. Marge6914 (talk) 18:38, 10 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • I'm so sorry!!!!! Actually I transcluded the person into the biography section, but I didn't think the way I did was right. So I checked your editing and wanted to revise it by myself. But I just ruined your work and I didn't know how to get it back (you can check the history to see my work > <). I am so SORRY!! I hope you won't mad at me. > < And could you teach me how to transclude?? Thank you!!Weariness (talk) 07:57, 15 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • I need to talk to Michael on monday about this. It seems like the page has 5 subpages dedicated to selected articles/pictures and pressing that "Show New Selection" button randomly shows different selections. The only problem is, we only have 1 selected article up there, so it takes a while to cycle through and get both of the ones I added up there at once. I'm going to talk to Michael about maybe finding a better way to format the page. Pgrobison (talk) 20:14, 15 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

There are a few related portals on the HCI project page we could probably use for this section of the portal page as well Tannermp (talk) 20:15, 10 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Definitely want to add Portal:Human–computer_interaction, how about also adding Portal:Information_technology, Portal:Computer_graphics, Portal:Design, Portal:Psychology for a few? Marge6914 (talk) 22:02, 15 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I think we can interact Portal: Computer science with our portal as well.Weariness (talk) 05:23, 16 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Definitely! Marge6914 (talk) 19:55, 17 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

Our project page already lists 4: Wikipedia:WikiProject_Technology, Wikipedia:WikiProject_Psychology, Wikipedia:WikiProject_Software, and Wikipedia:WikiProject_Usability Marge6914 (talk) 22:05, 15 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think so. I have no idea where it went. Maybe it was never part of the template that Greg chose? Marge6914 (talk) 19:54, 17 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Name

[edit]

I have boldly renamed the portal to match the capitalisation and hyphenation of the main article Human–computer interaction. It is much easier to do this before dozens of sub-pages have been created. -- John of Reading (talk) 06:05, 6 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Notice from the Portals WikiProject

[edit]

WikiProject Portals is back!

The project was rebooted and completely overhauled on April 17th, 2018. Its goals are to revitalize the entire portal system, make building and maintaining portals easier, support the ongoing improvement of portals and the editors dedicated to this, and design the portals of the future.

As of May 2nd, 2018, membership is at 60 editors, and growing. You are welcome to join us.

There are design initiatives for revitalizing the portals system as a whole, and for improving each component of portals. So far, 2 new dynamic components have been developed: Template:Transclude lead excerpt and Template:Transclude random excerpt.

Tools are provided for building and maintaining portals, including automated portals that update themselves in various ways.

And, if you are bored and would like something to occupy your mind, we have a wonderful task list.

From your friendly neighborhood Portals WikiProject. Hope to see you there. Sincerely,    — The Transhumanist   07:33, 2 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
