Staurastrum is a genus of green algae, specifically of the Desmidiaceae.[1] The genus includes approximately 800 species. These algae live on sediments or submerged surfaces in acidic lakes, ponds, and swamps with low nutrient levels. Many species have a cosmopolitan distribution.[2] These algae reproduce by isogamy.[3]
