It might be a good idea to document that there is a NEW much expanded format and that the 16 divisions is going to become a thing of the past...

16 Original Divisions

[edit]

I am not sure the newest format is being accepted by specifiers and architects. a california licensed architect. WonderWheeler (talk) 22:15, 2 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The construction industry has progressed since the previous Wiki contribution in 2015. The 2004 upgrade from the original MasterFormat 16 Divisions to the current 50 Divisions has been embraced and the 16 Divisions are largely not recognized by today's computerized construction industry. As CADD (Computer-Aided Design and Drafting) has transformed into BIM (Building Information Modeling), so has the increase of construction technologies expanded into more categories of components that today's computer software programs must identify. That is the genesis of the 50 Divisions expansion which has replaced the original 16 Divisions that did not have the capacity to precisely distinguish today's technological advancements. The 50 Divisions are prepared with space to accommodate future unforeseen developments. DuBdad11 (talk) 21:03, 14 April 2020 (UTC)BILLD, Certified Construction Specifier [1][reply]
